Dear Friends,
Happy spring!
I'm off to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to welcome the recipients of the 2012 EJK Book Award to our winner's circle. Starting this year, the award is being given during the Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival, hosted by the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi. The roster of workshops, speakers and awards make this event an annual destination for children's book specialists, and it's a great opportunity for our New Writer, Meg Medina, and New Illustrator, Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw, to rub shoulders with some of the giants in the field. We're also looking ahead to the EJK/New York City Department of Education Bookmaking Award celebrations coming up in May. Our new co-presenter, the Brooklyn Public Library, promises an amazing schedule of events (listed below) to go with its month-long display of the winning books. Stay tuned for a preview on our website, coming soon.
Sincerely,
Deborah Pope
Executive Director
Ezra Jack Keats Foundation
