My Snowy Day

Some of our favorite writers, actors and personalities are lifelong fans of Keats and loved The Snowy Day as kids. Just like us! We've asked these admirers for their memories of growing up with the Keats classic.  First up:

 Ben Stiller,
recalling his snow days in New York City.

"Growing up in New York in the 1970s, snow was magical. When it came, the city shut down. It became quiet and beautiful..."

Dear Friends,

The EJK Foundation is having its own version of March Madness! Now that this year's  EJK Book Award winners have been selected, we're gearing up for the award ceremony, taking place in April at the Children's Book Festival, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. We'll share highlights of the event in the next newsletter.
March is also the month when Minigrants applications are due. We've extended the deadline to March 31 from the 15th, though applicants will still be notified in mid-May.

And perhaps our favorite day of the month is March 11, Ezra's birthday! Educators often use this occasion as a peg for a Keats author study, complete with fun school or library festivities. We've already heard about some and would love to learn more. Please contact us with details of your Keats classes and images of your students' work, and we may post them on our website!

Sincerely,

Deborah Pope

The Snowy Day was front and center on World Read-Aloud Day, March 7. The book was read by
Miss USA, Alyssa Campanella (above right), to a rapt audience of New York City schoolkids hosted by the literacy organization LitWorld. On the West Coast, LeVar Burton read it for Google+. Both events were livestreamed around the world.
