"HI, CAT!"

Hi Cat cover

Archie is putting on a show for the neighborhood kids when a stray cat jumps into the act and wreaks havoc, more than once! Archie loses his audience but feels that he may have won the affection of a cat: "I think that  cat just kinda liked me!"

Fun Facts

JENNIE'S HAT:

Ezra was inspired to make this book by a very tiny picture, the size of a postage stamp, of an old couple feeding the pigeons who then came to rest on their shoulders and arms. You can see, almost anything can be used to make a wonderful book!

PETER'S CHAIR:

Willie, Peter's dog, has the same name as Ezra's older brother.   Everyone loves Willie, who appears in quite a few of Ezra's books. Willie's importance in the books  reflects how much Ezra's brother meant to him in real life.

HI CAT!:

Ezra shows how important animals were to him. As a boy he desperately wanted a pet, but his family could not afford one. The grown-up Ezra fulfilled his dream: he had a dog named Jake and a cat named Samantha.

Dear Friends,

Did you catch last month's video celebrating PETER'S CHAIR? If you didn't, you should check it out! These montages are getting better and better. The video on JENNIE'S HAT, posted at left, is adorable! We would love to hear your comments on our Newsletter and the Keats Film Festival. Go to our Facebook page and let us know what you think. And don't forget that you could be IN the Keats Film Festival if you share some of the playful moments you have with your child while reading one of our featured Keats books.

We're very excited here at the EJK Foundation because it is only a few more days before we find out the names of the 2011 winners of the EJK New Writer and New Illustrator Awards! We'll pass that information along to you in our next Newsletter, for which HI CAT! will be the featured book. If you love the book, don't miss the movie!

Sincerely,

Deborah Pope
