logobuttonThe Viz this week is filled with gratitude as I have been accepted into an organization Wyland started, The Ocean Artists Society. Wyland truly is a dreamer with vision and an imagination worthy of great admiration.  WE took this photo together at the Long Beach Aquarium this past weekend. What are the chances that a kid from Detroit getting inspiration from watching television programs of Jacques Cousteau would go on to become one of the greatest Ocean Artists of all times? Midwest, ocean and whales just do not seem to fit in the same sentence and yet tens of millions of people get to see this artists work every year. Wyland, is an inspiration to this girl born and raised a few hundred miles from him in the small town of Chicago. Midwesterner, lover of the Ocean and thank goodness, Dreamer, thank you Wyland! Dive Into Your Imagination and help us spread the word about our Ocean! Visit the site, join our community, forward this to your friends, honor a scientist, encourage a child to learn how to swim, go blow bubbles underwater at your local dive shop. Go get wet! Do what ever you can to help give the gift of the ocean this season as the ocean is responsible for the health of our planet!

octopus
Octopus use camouflage to protect themselves on the reef. They also change the color of their skin to communicate with one another. Watch this video and see if you can always spot the octopus!

coolscientistShauna Bingham plays a HUGE part in teaching the public about protecting the Santa Barbara Channel through her job at the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. She also enjoys SCUBA diving because she feels that the ocean is the most magical place to be. Learn more about Shauna here!

camera coachSometimes, when you're working on edits you may discover a need to unlink your audio and video. Holding shift+L will activate the LINKING or UNLINKING option when working on the timeline. This gives you the ability to move the audio and the visual independently, but you won't always mean for this to happen, especially when you switch LINKING off and on a lot. Come learn more!

On Sunday, Cody, the green sea turtle, underwent laser surgery to remove his fibropapilloma tumors. It was quite an experience to assist with a surgery on a sea turtle! Come see what we ended up doing to help Cody!

The underwater world is amazing! After our pool sessions, J. and I had to complete tasks on three open-water boat dives and two beach dives in order to complete our certification. We had a busy, but exciting, week in the ocean! Come see how we did!
