So Much News...

My Fitness News took a little hiatus while life basically happened!

Marriage, honeymoon, house search, house purchase, renting the old house, move, and new training business model. After a short rest, I'm ready to focus on the daily things again.

My business now operates in our new house! We moved to N. Arlington/McLean and now I have a light, open, airy workout room with all of my favorite equipment.

It still needs some paint and mirrors, but if you saw my last place, it's a HUGE improvement. Tall people can do shoulder presses! And look at that sunlight...gym 2

I intend to mostly train clients in my own home so that I can focus on providing service to a growing clientele. The other cool thing--we have an inground pool and courtyard area that would be great in warmer weather for Pilates or core training classes.

Check out my website for all of the latest information.

Office Work Got You Hurtin'?
If you sit at a computer most of the day, you likely suffer from at least one of these common problems:

1. Hunched shoulders = sore neck.

2. Forward neck; add #1 to look like a Hunchback.

3. Weak glutes (butt muscles) aka saggy bottom.

4. Carpal tunnel (wrist) problems: tingling, pain, or numbness up the entire arm.

5. Sore, weak low back.

Here are some remedies:

1. Make sure your workstation is ergonomic.

2. Take breaks to stretch and walk around every hour. Take the stairs up several floors and walk back down.

3. Stand at your desk; it burns more calories. It's easy to put up and take down. Check out mine: just a box, paper reams and organizer tray.

4. Do Pilates and/or other core-strengthening activities.

5. Take a Positive Energy Yoga class, lead by my awesome buddy, Olivia. (P.S. If you're training for something in particular, her hubby Julio Barnett is an amazing sports trainer and boot camp instructor.)

Lose with Meal Planning
One of the easiest ways to gain weight, especially with holidays, is to eat impulsively. Taking the time to plan weekly meals allows you to:

1. Cut down on impulsive buying and eating.

2. Reduce snacking on junk food.

3. Lower costs by eating out less.

4. Eat fewer calories overall, thereby losing weight.

Once a week, write out your meals. Make it easy and just have the same 1-2 items for breakfast every day. Here is a sample:
Sunday dinner: chicken stir-fry
Monday lunch: leftovers and an apple
Monday dinner: grilled fish, asparagus, brown rice
Tuesday lunch: turkey sandwich, yogurt, orange
Etc.

Then, make a list of the ingredients you need to buy for the week. Shop only for those ingredients, and don't buy snack food during the week.

Tips for Parties
Eat something light beforehand so that you're not starving. Pick out the 3-4 most appealing items and just have 2-3 bites of each. Go back for seconds of just ONE favorite, and have another 2-3 bites. One drink. That's IT! Unless you want to weigh the same or gain. Sorry, it's that cut and dry.
