Health Care Reform Update
With the enactment of the Affordable Health Care Act, significant changes to the health care and health insurance industries will be implemented over the next several years. Each quarter in The Brooker Bulletin, we'll answer a question relating to health care reform to help you understand the various changes brought on by the new legislation. * * * * * * *QUESTION: Under the Affordable Care Act, will preventative services now be covered? ANSWER: Yes, if you are covered under a job-related health plan or an individual plan created after March 23, 2010, preventative services will be available to you as soon as your plan begins its first new "plan year" or "policy year" on or after September 23, 2010. Depending on your age, you may have free access (no co-payment, co-insurance or deductible) to: * blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol tests * many cancer screenings, including mammograms and colonoscopies * flu and pneumonia shots * regular well-baby and well-child visits, from birth to age 21 * counseling on topics such as smoking cessation, weight loss, depression treatments and alcohol abuse.
