2010 Census
What to Do When A Census Taker Visits
Beginning next week, U.S. Census forms will be mailed to every residence in the U.S. If you fail to return your census form, you may receive a follow-up visit from a census worker. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative but cautious, so as not to become victims of fraud or identity theft. Here are some tips to help you tell the difference between a census worker and a con artist:
* Census workers are required to carry a badge, a handheld device, a confidentiality notice and a Census Bureau canvas bag.
* Census workers will never ask to enter your home;
* Never give your social security number, credit card, banking or financial information to your census worker, even if asked;
* Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail or in person at home, but will never contact you by email, so be on the lookout for email scams impersonating the Census. |

A "Spring Showers" Reminder
The Ohio Deparment of Public Safety is reminding all motorists of the new "wiper and headlight" law which took effect on January 1st of this year. All vehicles on a street or highway must have headlights on while using windshield wipers. Daytime lights that automatically turn on with the car will fulfill this requirement. The purpose of the law is to increase the visibility of vehicles in inclement weather conditions. So please remember, when the weather is bad enough to require you to have your windshield wipers on, then your headlights must be illuminated, too. Safe traveling! |

Spring Cleaning Safety Tips
Spring is in the air, and for many people, that means it's time to tackle those spring cleaning projects. Follow these tips to stay safe while cleaning, especially from falls and poisonings, which are two of the top causes of home injuries:
* When cleaning or reorganizing, always keep stairs, step landings and floor clear of clutter to avoid trips or falls;
* Only carry loads you can see over, and keep one hand free to hold banisters and railings;
* Follow safety recommendations when using harsh products, such as wearing gloves and masks. Do not mix products;
* Never leave a bucket of standing water unattended as this could present a serious drowning danger to young children or small pets. Store empty buckets upside down.
