Greetings Brother Knights:
The most pressing issue for Catholics during these times is that of protecting the innocent in our midst.
The delegates gathered at the Supreme Convention in Quebec ratified the resolution "Building a Culture of Life which resolved in part "...That we will continue our efforts to charitably inform, educate and motivate our
brother Knights and fellow Catholics of the serious obligation they have to form
their consciences so that they make sound moral judgments which support and
defend life in all its stages..."
At that same convention Supreme Knight Carl Anderson in his Annual Report reminded all Knights that ..."we strive to be a people of life and a people for life committed to building a
culture of life;" and furthermore as active Catholics it is our duty to make our voice heard for real change which values innocent human life.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln SK Anderson enjoined all present that "With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right as God
gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in."
That work is to spread the message that as Catholics we are guided more by moral convictions than any self interest. Uppermost of all those issues facing each of us this election season is the evil of abortion. No other issue takes more importance than this one for us as Knights and faithful Catholic citizens.
It is this encouragement that lead your IA Knights of Columbus executive council to embark on an initiative to spread the "Vote Pro-Life" message as widely as we could. Here is what we have done and what you can do to help.

Pro-Life Billboards
IA State Council has been instrumental in partnering with local councils to place commercial billboards around the state.
Billboards already in place:
- 2 in Cedar Rapids Baby and Blocks (paper)
- 2 in Iowa City Baby and Blocks (paper)
- 1 in Sioux City Beautiful Choice (vinyl reusable)
- 1 in Spirit Lake Let them Live (vinyl reusable)
Billboards going later this week or early next:
- 1 in Council Bluffs Baby and Blocks (paper)
- 1 in Dubuque People of Life (vinyl reusable)

More Opportunities
There is still time to get the word out about Pro-Life! The Supreme Council Knights of Columbus is making available a 10' x 20' paper billboard -- A People of Life -- at no cost with free shipping. Zip Mettenburg has lined up 3 of these in his area. I encourage all District Deputies to ask around in their area - it might be a commercial sign-space or the side of a barn that faces the highway. Either will work. Send the name and address of the commitment to Michael Gaspers and your billboard will be dispatched from Supreme with 2 day shipping. It will arrive as paper sections that need to be pasted to your selected backboard. |
Not Only Billboards
Want to get involved but don't have room for a full billboard? The Vote Pro Life message is also available on banners! The Baby Blocks design and The People of Life and For Life are approved for use on various media in Iowa. Both designs are available in 2x8 or 4x8 vinyl with
grommets for $100 plus shipping from Zip Mettenburg. He assures me he can have these delivered in about a week but needs the money in hand. Zip and others have had success putting these on the sides of vans, in front of council halls and in some cases church property. A modified version of the Baby Blocks is available without "vote" to satisfy concerns by some pastors.
Yard Signs too!
Jaime Borman, wife Mike Bormann of Preston IA, will do the Vote Pro
Life on plastic for yard signs. Double side is 1 for $25 or 2 for $40
including shipping. She will have both the Baby Block and the People of Life designs available and ready to ship right away.
