Featured Fundraiser: Team SOS |
 | | Team S.O.S. at the 2011 Baltimore Running Festival |
Team SOS (Swagger of Stagger) was proud to represent Team Fisher House at the Baltimore Running Festival on October 15, 2011. I'm happy to say that we were able to raise $2,690 for the Foundation. Our team consists of family and close friends who set out to get healthy and support each other in our fitness goals.
A few months ago, running a half- marathon seemed like an impossible goal for most of us on the team. I'm happy to say that we all completed our goal of finishing. The crowd support really motivated us during the race and we received numerous compliments on our shirts. What a wonderful feeling when people recognized Team Fisher House and cheered for us!
We would like to thank Team Fisher House for all you do for the military and their families. It was truly an honor to be a part of this wonderful organization!

Featured Event - Team Fisher House at the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon
|
Runners:Team Fisher House hosted a group of 400 runners at the 36th Marine Corps Marathon and MCM10K in Arlington, VA on October 30, 2011. This 2011 MCM team set a record as our largest fundraising group and our most successful fundraising event ever thanks to their dedication and enthusiasm for Fisher House! Volunteers:The team runners were supported by more than 300 volunteers along the race course - cheering for them as Mile Markers or handing out drinks at the Team Fisher House Water Point at Mile 19. Volunteers also assisted at the expo and finish line tent, in addition to taking brilliant photos like the ones above. We couldn't have done it without their unfailing support! Donors:Runners reached out to friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors to contribute to their online campaigns for Fisher House; 4,359 responded with more than $405,000 in donations! Read some of their comments below: - "Passion and compassion for others are precious attributes that are not possessed by many, but for those that possess them and are willing to put them into action on behalf of others, they are the most admirable attributes of all. Thank you for running on behalf of your brothers and sisters that have come before you and will come after and for keeping this message and need alive!"
- "Thanks for giving us the opportunity to give to this worthy cause - and for donating your energy and time to make this run, let alone your years of service to our homeland, your loyalty to the men and women who serve along with you, and your devotion to the family we all love so much!"
Combining the fundraising efforts at the 2011 Navy Ten Nautical Miler, Air Force Marathon Races, Army Ten-Miler, and Marine Corps Marathon, Team Fisher House has contributed more than $550,000 for the construction of the new Fisher House at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Team Fisher House will be listed as a 4-Star Contributor on the bronze plaque that will be permanently mounted in the foyer. Ground-breaking for this new Fisher House is scheduled for 2012. Back to Top

STARS "RISE AND HONOR" FOR
EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION VETERANS DAY SPECIAL
BENEFITING VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Los Angeles, November 2, 2011 - ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is teaming up with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to present a one-hour special: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition "Rise and Honor" A Veterans Day Special. Airing on Veterans Day (11/11/11), host Ty Pennington will take us back to some of the most heartwarming military stories featured over the years. The EMHE crew will also pay a visit to select heroic families to find out what they've been up to since the makeover and how they are paying it forward by helping their fellow veterans. The special will culminate in a celebratory event that will feature an audience of active-duty service members and veterans in addition to a live musical performance by Jewel, who will also co-host the special.
Throughout the episode, celebrities will shine a light on issues veterans face after serving in the military, as well as the strengths and skills returning veterans bring to the work force and their communities. The Veterans Day program will include appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, Jewel, George Lopez, J.R. Martinez, Rachael Ray, Sherri Shepherd, Robin Williams and Major League Baseball (MLB) players Daniel Murphy of the Mets, Shane Victorino of the Phillies and Clay Buchholz of the Red Sox. The celebrities will encourage the public to donate via phone and web at www.riseandhonor.org.
Net proceeds raised during this one-hour special will benefit the following veteran-serving organizations: Fisher House Foundation, Hire Heroes USA, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, USO (United Service Organizations), Volunteers of America, and Welcome Back Veterans. These organizations provide vital services and support to our nations veterans and their families including housing, job placement, career readiness, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment. This television event is made possible due to the generous support of ABC, The Clorox Company and MLB.
