In the News - Fisher House Receives $6.5 MillionTop
Vets Donate to Fisher HouseNEW YORK, NY - The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the Fisher House Foundation today announced that each has received a $6.5 million donation from the VA Data Theft Litigation Settlement Fund. . .

The donation to the IFHF will be used to fund the construction and outfitting of equipment inside the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), a state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital being constructed on the grounds of the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD outside Washington DC. The center will study and provide world-class rehabilitation services to members of the armed forces dealing with diagnosed cases of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), the signature wounds of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The contribution to the Fisher House Foundation will go towards the Foundation's capital program to fund the construction of additional Fisher Houses at military installations and VA Medical Centers around the country.

San Diego Fisher House Photo Collage - Jayne Woods
My name is Jayne Woods and I need to give a brief history as to how I came to stay at the Fisher House in San Diego, CA. My son LCpl. William Stevens was wounded in Iraq August 21, 2004. He was eventually flown to the Naval Med Center San Diego (Balboa Hospital). The Marine Corps flew my Mother and me to San Diego where the first night we stayed in a motel until a room became available the next morning at Fisher House. When we arrived we could not believe how beautiful the house was and that it is only steps away from the hospital. We met with the associate director whose name was Pat. She checked us in and showed us our room which was so nice and an attached bath. There was several other rooms on both floors and a computer desk on the lower level where we could keep in contact with others via email. That was great as I could keep in contact with family and the other Moms from our Yahoo support group. The kitchen was fabulous with every room having their own locked cabinet and the local CostCo providing daily breakfast sweets.

But just being able to have a place to lay our heads down after spending the entire day and evening at the hospital and be so close to Will was more than I can ever say . The staff was amazing and we just loved Remy the housekeeper. Fisher House gave us a home away from home, being in a strange city and your child hurting was the hardest thing I have ever been through but to know home was just a few steps away. We met other families going thru the same thing and I have kept in contact with one Mom to this day. While we intially only expected to stay a week, Will's surgeries kept us there close to 6 weeks and it was so nice to be able to be so close to him.I can never thank Fisher House enough for having such beautiful homes for families to be able to stay in and be so close to their loved one who is in a military hospital. I don't know what we would have done without the Fisher House in San Diego. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

House Round Up - a Very Special Fisher House at  Dover Air Force Base
Dover Fisher House Ground Breaking
Dover AFB Ground Breaking
Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley, Gen. Norton Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff, and Ken Fisher, Fisher House Foundation chairman, participated in a special groundbreaking ceremony May 1 for a Fisher House on Dover Air Force Base, Del.

Although this is the 53rd Fisher House to be built, the event was special because it marks the first time ground has not been broken next to a military hospital or Veterans Administration medical center. Instead, this Fisher House will be adjacent to the Center for Families of the Fallen, supporting the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center at Dover.

When it opens this fall, the 8,462-square foot home and 1,714-square foot meditation pavilion and garden will provide free on-base lodging to families who travel to Dover to witness the dignified transfer of their loved one.

Supporting these families, the Air Force Chief of Staff stressed, is our most solemn obligation.  Read more

Thank you for supporting Fisher House Foundation through the Team Fisher House Program.  You truly are Champions for Military Families!

Sincerely,
