Obama gives $1.4 million in Nobel Prize money to charities - Fisher House Receives Top Prize
 
President ObamaTen charities will split the $1.4 million awarded to President Obama as part of the Nobel Peace Prize, the White House announced March 11, 2010.
 

"These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad, helping students, veterans and countless others in need," Obama said in a statement. "I'm proud to support their work."

A Guest's Story: Elayne Varney
 

In November 2009, my husband was transported to Richmond, Virginia to begin an amazing journey to heart transplant. I had never heard of the Fisher House before this. Upon arrival I was escorted to the House to find a beautiful peaceful HOME which would actually become MY home for three months. There was so much support and comfort there during that very stressful time.  My husband had LVAD surgery on November 10 and had a heart transplant one month later.  MIRACLES still happen!  Thank you for this wonderful gift during a very difficult time.comfort there during that very stressful time. House Round Up
Chicago Fisher HouseOn March 5, 2010 the 44th Fisher House opened its doors to families in need. The newest home to open is located at the Hines VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
 
Managed by Holly Wright, the house has room for 20 families of service members, retirees, and veterans. The official dedication will take place on May 28, 2010.  Read more ...
