Oscar and Pan de Vida KidsDear Pan de Vida Partners,

This quarter we had the opportunity to celebrate 10 years of ministry at Pan de Vida!  As I reflect on these past 10 years I am reminded that being in ministry is about walking a life of faith, not just for our volunteers but also for our beneficiaries who have learned to trust in Christ and take amazing walks of faith in their lives.

Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that our righteousness is nothing more than filthy rags in the sight of the Lord.  It is not acts of righteousness that God seeks from us, but FAITH IN HIM!

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."  Hebrews 11:6.

Celebrating 10 Years of Ministry!

Celebrating 10 Years at PDV

It is hard to believe that we have been operating Pan de Vida for 10 years now!  The Lord has done a great work in this ministry and we are so looking forward to many more years of ministry.

In October we did a formal celebration by holding an open house.  It was a time to invite our volunteers, ministry partners, and family and friends to come and see how the ministry has grown.  We were able to present our new video of the ministry, to hear the testimony of the Enriquez family who has been coming to our ministry almost since the beginning, and to see pictures spanning over the decade.

We really wish to say "Thank You" to all of you because 10 years could have never happened without your continued prayers and support for our ministry.   Every donation we receive allows us to continue to provide for our beneficiaries and impact their lives for the Kingdom of God.

Christmas Celebrations
Children's Choir

December is always a busy time of year for us at Pan de Vida. Our Christmas events this year included turkey meals, gifts and candy for the children, food bags for the parents, gift baskets for staff members, games, and singing with a special performance by our Children's Choir.

In addition to hosting our own Christmas events we help at the Zambiza garbage dump Christmas party put on by our partner ministry, Extreme Response. The garbage dump is just that - a dump where poor people dig through the garbage to find recyclables to sell for money.  Extreme Response reaches out to this community in ministry year round and every Christmas they host a huge party with games, singing, and fun things for the families that live and work in this environment.  Every year, we send out our volunteers, staff, and yes, even our own beneficiaries volunteer to be the ones serving for a change.  It is a special time for all of us to do this.

In Memory of Monica Piedad

Monica Piedad

In a previous newsletter we told you about young Monica Piedad (4 years old) who had been diagnosed with leukemia. It is with great sorrow that we report that Monica Piedad passed away on February 2nd.

She underwent chemotherapy treatments but in the end her immune system just was not able to recover and in her last days she struggled with pneumonia. There is a distinct sadness when a child passes away and we ask that you keep this family in your prayers.

Monica's parents, Maria and Segundo, wish to thank all who have prayed for them during this time and also for those who gave so generously. For those of you who gave financially, your donations helped pay for medical expenses, transportation, lunches at a local restaurant for the other two children while the parents were away from home, a replacement worker for Maria so that Maria could continue to receive her monthly salary, and funeral home and burial expenses. Your assistance to this family was substantial. Thank you so much.

Maria and Segundo are an example for all of us as they stand steadfast and do not turn away from the Lord. Please pray for the strength and peace they need to endure the sadness and difficulty of losing their little girl.

Health Program
ImmunizationsIn the fall of 2011, there was an outbreak of measles in some of the communities around Ecuador.  As a response to this crisis, we opted to have an immunization clinic at Pan de Vida where we worked with the Ministero de Salud and Clinica La Y to get parents and children both educated in immunizations and to get up to date with their immunization.  We had 110 persons attend this event and 65 vaccinations were administered.

Quarterly Stats - (Sept-Dec 2011)

  • 6030 people heard the word of God being preached and received a hot meal through our weekly feeding programs
  • 21 individuals were helped with medical vouchers for a total of $495
  • 52 Food bags were provided to families in need
  • 420 People attended the Kids and Adult Saturday Education program
