| A Family We Serve... | The Ontaneda Family has been with Pan de Vida for 5 years now. Mrs. Ontaneda is a single mom of 7 children who works as a maid to support her family. They live in a two room poorly constructed home. Since they only have one bed, they have to lay out cardboard on the floor so they all have a place to sleep at night. In the picture you can see her family standing next to their stove in the kitchen. They have been tremendously blessed through our weekly meetings, our kid's program, health program, and school supply program. Pan de Vida strives to reach the poorest of the poor by changing their lives first and foremost through the word of God, and then through food, clothing, training, and medicine. As a non-profit organization, we depend soley on private donations to sustain our programs and continue to reach out to this population for the Kingdom of God. Donate Now! |
| Health Care Updates |
New teeth and glasses
We were able to help 18 people with new teeth! Not having good teeth often leads to malnutrition among other things. For these individuals, having dentures means a whole new life to them! Pictured here is Rosa Yupa, who makes a living washing cars close by Pan de Vida.
We learned from our health fair last summer that many of our beneficiaries were either legally blind or pretty close to it - including many children! We thank the Lord for his provision in funding to provide these individuals with glasses enabling them to work and go to school. |
| Kids Club and Adult Program | This year we changed the format of our booster classes to be more flexible and to focus on addressing different themes that will help shape the children and their parents as well has contribute to their success in life. We now hold a once a month Kid's Club where the parents are required to come with their children and participate in an adult educational activity while the kids attend the kid's program.
Each month there is a theme in which we incorporate a devotional, worship time, an educational seminar, and some kind of activity or project.

| Micro-Business Project |
Our 2009 Micro-Business project turned out to be such a success!
We had 9 students during the first part of the pilot last quarter 2009, they made aprons and oven mitts. A few of them went on to get jobs as seamstresses in factories while others continue on for the intermediate levels. Despite which direction they went, all of their lives were radically changed: they learned about self-esteem, God's love for them and the gifts He gives each of them, and their attitudes and beliefs about what they could accomplish in life was totally changed!
This semester, we have started the second level of our pilot where they are focusing on sewing of children's clothes. We had our first sale at a bazaar and sold almost $200 in product. We also identified 10 new candidates to start in the beginners sewing class, allowing new people to join the program.
These positive results of our pilot have motivated us to continue with the project, so we took advantage of all the remodeling we were doing to set up a more adequate work area in the basement for this purpose. We pray that this part of the ministry will soon have a deeper impact on the process of helping our beneficiaries to be free from poverty |
| Remodeling and Construction! |
Thanks to some very hard working volunteers and missions teams from around the world, we were able to put in the 3rd of 4 sections of wall to complete the security upgrades to the Pan de Vida house! We are still looking for a team to come and finish the very last section of the wall among other potential missions team projects we have. Contact Us if you are interested in bringing a team down!
We had also received a very generous donation for an industrialized sink in our kitchen - this was a very much needed item. In anticipation of the sinks arrival, we had planned to expand the kitchen wall out a few feet. A project that seemed simple enough - until we found out that all the sewage pipes under the kitchen and in the basement were broken! We ended up tearing up the kitchen floor, the basketball court outside, and the basement floor to fix the pipes. We now have a beautiful kitchen with a wonderful sink, new tile, two new bathrooms in the basement, and most importantly, new piping that doesn't leak! The Lord graciously provided us with two unexpected donations that helped to cover the costs of this tremendous project!
