 Randy Strong Bonsai

Randy Strong is probably best known for his use of dichroic glass.  His vases and heart paperweights are simply magnificent. Randy created a real name for himself making the best wine goblets and Martini glasses I can remember seeing. It has been many years since he has made  stem ware.  Now, while he still makes dichroic vases and hearts, he favors sculptural forms. Here is one of his earlier Bonsai series. Randy created a blown dish that is glued to  a lower element. The dish sits on a third blown element that is glued to a black flat glass base. Don't worry about the glue it is stronger than the glass. This work is 22" x 17 1/2" x 25" tall.  We have it for $4400.00

HERSHEY HALL

HJersey Hall

Last week we started on the restoration  and repair of the leaded glass windows at Hersey Hall. Hershey Hall was a gift from Mira Hershey in 1931 to the "Women Students" of UCLA.

It was the first on campus dormitory.

Greetings!

I'm back from Philadelphia and Baltimore where my wife  and I had  lots of fun. The restaurants in both cities are superb.  It was great seeing a lot of old friends, and making new ones. The Chinatown in Philly is especially enticing filled with all types of smells and sites. It has a certain hustle and bustle about it that  adds to the excitement. Of course the food  is the best.

We were fortunate to make it out and back with no delays given the winter's weather.  It was very pleasant while we were there.  It did snow one night, but warmed up and was sunny the next day.

I am very happy with the work coming into the gallery, and especially some of the new artists joining us. I will be introducing them to you in detail as I receive their work. Among these artists are Wendy Lin, jewelry; Niamh and Jenny of Urban Links, jewelry; Scott Maryjaszek, sculptured photography; Sean Brown, jewelry; Chris and Alexandra Pantos of Torchworks glass, perfume bottles; Trudi and Eric Cooper, Glass Jewelry; David Lindsay, art glass; Paul Counts, art glass; Ken and Ingrid Hanson, art glass; Margaret Neher, art glass; and Tamara Baskin, glass Judaica. Of course there will be many new pieces from currents artists arriving throughout the year.

Hang in there with me.  This is going to lots of fun.

I have been representing Leon for over 25 years. His use of vibrant colors, and ability to combine organic functional and sculptural forms have been consistently appealing. Here are a couple of classics from Leon Applebaum.  On the left is the Lava bowl(7 1/2" diameter x 6"high), and on the right a textured bowl(8 1/2 x 9 3/4" x 4 1/2 high). These are thick bowls with vibrant color. Always one of my favorites.
Anchor Bend XLarge Wave

Michael Richardson, Justin Tarducci and Timothy Underwood of Anchor Bend Glassworks make a wide assortment of sculptures, glassware, and Christmas ornaments. There waves have always been well received. Go figure I am in Santa Monica, a surfing, beach city. Their waves come in four sizes from mini to extra large. Admiring them just makes you feel good. Great gifts for  a surfer, sailor, or romantic beach stroller.I have these in four sizes priced from $220.00- $47.00.
