EMPLOYMENT THROUGH EMPOWERMENT
Stregthening Families Through
Employment Opportunities
Capitol Hill Group Ministry recently created a pilot program that provides emergency shelter residents with an opportunity to contribute to the day to day operations of Shirley's Place Hospitality Center. Participants active in our Resident Role project are already enrolled in the city's welfare-to-work program but this project will allow persons to gain marketable on-the-job skills training they otherwise do not have, such as entry level administrative or receptionist duties through CHGM's initiative.
CHGM will also be launching a partnership with Department of Employment Services (DOES) in the coming weeks as CHGM will serve as a Host Agency. Through this partnership, CHGM will become an agency work site that provides job coaching, mentorship, and full-time transitional employment for an individual seeking work.

CALLING ALL GOLFERS!!!
On January 28 CHGM sent out an electronic survey to previous golfers in an effort to gain feedback for future tournaments. Please take a few minutes to share your experience about participating in our tournaments. This annual community-based fundraiser raises thousands of dollars each year to assist homeless families of Capitol Hill and Ward 6. The results of the survey will be used to improve deliverables, create a spectacular event, establish lasting friendships - and all for a wonderful cause. |

CHGM COLD WEATHER ASK
During the cold winter months we encounter individuals we work with daily without the appropriate garments to keep them warm. Our Street Outreach Team finds it especially troubling when we meet men and women who live on the streets without socks on their feet in the dead of winter. Between now and the end of March, CHGM could really use the following items to distribute to homeless individuals and families this winter:
* New or gently used winter coats or heavy jackets
* Thermal undergarments (Men's sizes med and large)
* Children's hat & glove sets
* Socks, Socks, Socks (Adult sizes - any color, any brand)
* Blankets (twin and full sizes)
* All donated items can be dropped off at Shirley's Place Day Center, 1338 G St., SE, 7 days per week. Call (202) 544-3150 for hours.
