For over 40 years Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM) has linked faith communities, concerned neighbors, corporate partners, and local businesses to provide a holistic comprehensive support system for vulnerable individuals, youth and families on Capitol Hill and across the District of Columbia. Since 1967, our mission has been to address problems of homelessness, poverty and alienation. All of our initiatives reflect our primary goal: to empower vulnerable persons to move toward self-sufficiency and healthy interdependence.
 
Your gift to Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM) helps Shirley's Place Day Hospitality Center give homeless families a safe place to go where they can build independent living skills, do their laundry, take parenting classes, or simply escape from the cold. You provide emergency financial assistance to neighbors in crisis for food and transportation help. Plus you support our Shelter Plus Care project, CHGM's partnership with Department of Human Services, that gives formerly homeless neighbors counseling support and wrap-around services for their substance abuse issues to stay in permanent housing. This program is especially important because it reaches our most vulnerable neighbors who, until now, have been chronically homeless because of mental health or chemical dependency issues. 
 

Capitol Hill Group Ministry would like to thank its partners for such a successful Thanksgiving Basket Drive. For Thanksgiving '09 you provided turkeys, food and trimmings to 296 families in need.

 

Please join us for our annual Christmas "Adopt-A-Family" event where we provide brand new toys and clothing to homeless parents and their children. Between now and December 21 we are accepting gifts for homeless families. Please consider sponsoring a family for Christmas so that they may enjoy the holiday season with hope and cheer.
