Supt_MessageSUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

The Holiday Season has the magic to bring out generosity and kindness in people.  As an important part of our mission to support the well being of our students and communities, this holiday season Team ACOE is adopting the Hayward Community School. Please join us in giving to those most in need of support during the holidays by participating in one of the many opportunities to help others as part of the ACOE Holiday Giving Campaign.

In this edition of In Touch:

Creating Solutions for the World We Share
I want to congratulate members of the Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership for building regional partnerships that forward our vision to provide quality arts education for every child, in every school,  every day.  Our 4th Annual Bay Area Regional Leadership Forum, featuring Dr. Pedro Noguera was a great success.  I extend an invitation for you to get involved in the Art IS Education & Freedom Bus Project activities planned for March 2011.

New Leadership at ACOE
The new year also brings new leadership to our County Office of Education in Hayward. Take a moment to meet the members of our Executive team.

May the holidays bring you closer to those you love and care for.
I wish you a healthy and safe holiday season.

Stay In Touch!
Sheila.

Dr. Pedro Noguera addresses regional educational leaders

Tony Smith

On November 12, 2010, one hundred twenty public education leaders assembled at Ohlone College in Newark to create a new and unified approach to current education policy.  The group gathered to hear from national education reform leader, Pedro Noguera and his ideas on "Making Systemic Change: Building Shared Leadership for Innovations in Classroom Practice and Multiple Measures for Sustained Student Success."

Student presentations, planning and discussion groups, and thoughtful dialogue rounded out the half-day of forum activities.

INSIDE ACOE
HolidayACOE's Holiday Giving Campaign
"tis the Season of Giving...if you were a child in need, what would you want most?" Four ways you can help:

Warm Yellow CoatEvery year the Alameda County Office of Education coordinates efforts to support community organizations. We ask you to take a moment to consider an appropriate donation.

Got Warm Clothing Items? Do you have extra gently used and clean teenage, kids, and toddler items like coats, hats, gloves, scarves, throws and blankets?  Please consider donating them to the South Hayward Homeless Project and Pacheco Court. For details about CSEA's Warm Things Drive please contact Tara Hyde at (510) 670-4583 or Eugene Ford at (510) 670-7756

Love to Share Food? No one should go hungry during the holidays. The food bank serves 1 in 6 residents in Alameda County--nearly half of them are children. The bank can stretch every $1 you donate into $5 worth of food with the Food Bank's bulk purchasing power and ultra-efficient distribution network. Please consider donating by logging in here.

African American Mom and SonToiletries and Basic Wear are Needed! Many children go without basic toiletries and basic wear (underwear and socks). Please take a moment to consider donating to provide self-care packages to our Hayward Community School (HCS).You can make a contribution via our secured Paypal Account or by contacting Jan Passama at (510) 670-4225

Got Toys? Every child longs for a new toy, especially during the Holidays. Please support the Hayward Firefighters in their effort to provide toys for local shelters serving children. Barrels are placed throughout the building in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors near the Westside elevators. If you have additional questions, please contact Alicia Masri at (510) 670-4110
