IFSHA World & National Grand Championships St. Louis, MO, October 28 - November 1 |
 This had to be one of the most fun filled IFSHA Championships we have attended yet!
Many good horses were exhibited and the clinics held were insiteful! Show management did a terrific job and events moved about smoothly.
The laughter and antics throughout the show made for a light and festive mood.
So glad to have Shirley Whirley, Shannon King, Joy Owen, Leah Copus, and Paula Robinson in our crew this year!

Thursday evening was quite a delight with Anneke Bruggeworth of Siren Song Stables and her crew, who are  always
looking
chic, hosting the evening treats
& conversation.
Friday evening, it was Joan Fernandez and Lance Bennett of Focus Friesian whose Champagne & Sweets is becoming the annual affair! And, we all voted that Lance wins for BEST COSTUME!
Saturday nite the party was getting started by Black Dragon  Friesians.
I have to extend a special thanks to Bruce Griffin for watching out for me in the Sport Horse In Hand division! Thanks for getting my back, or might I say "saving my back"!
And, to Kevin Paul a huge thank you for finding my wallet!
For those of you who missed this year's event, make sure you get your calendar planned for 2010!

Fridse 432 Sport Performs at
Equine Affaire, MA |
 Fridse and his trainer, Ron Steur, attended The Equine Affaire in Massachusetts and and performed every evening in the Pfizer Fantasia 2009 Gala Exhibitions.
The sold out performances were treated to Ron driving Fridse. What a fantastic crowd response received for this dynamic duo who really got the party started in style, the crowd cheering and on their feet!
Fridse loves a crowd, so the louder they cheered, the better he performed! People were so pleased that he was present to perform!
The spectators were also delighted to have Ron give a long line demonstration during the day; then, in a more dramatic turn of exhibitions during the breed demonostrations they showed off in costume, long lining, dressage, and in carriage.
As the program continued, the crowd began getting more and more restless for Fridse to return to the ring. . .

Arnold and I are pleased to announce the arrival of Isabella P. She is a a 7 Year Old mare, Teunix x Jurjen, 2nd Premie Ster mare. She was Grand Champion mare at the 2006 Keuring in Wisconsin.
Plans for her to be bred in Spring are now being made! But, in the meantime, she is schooling in Dressage and will be shown at the Spring Feathered Horse Classic; and she will be exhibiting at a variety of clinics & demonstrations. Now owned by:

Buddy and Phoenix Ellison
In their debut performance in Intro Test A (55%) and Intro Test B (59%) with Phoenix and Buddy gained a great experience and moved nicely through their test. Buddy is in his first month of training with trainer Arnold Warmels; and Phoenix has been a lesson student since August!

Biomechanics studies how we walk, how we sit, how we move, how we lift & the engineering forces that work in the body.
Sports Biomechanics
Sports Biomechanics specifically looks at sports and athletes. We might be assessing how a runner's foot hits the ground, or studying a video analysis of a cricketer's bowling action, a golfer's swing or the lifting action of a weight lifter.
For riders
The seat and posture of the rider has been studied for many thousands of years, and written and recorded for nearly as long. The science of biomechanics allows us to fine tune this study to a remarkable level looking at how the rider's position puts the horse out of balance, makes a horse crooked, or how the rider's position affects the straightness of the jumping line, or the balance in a piaffe.
With today's remarkable equipment, measurements can be taken to provide analysis & recommendations for even the most minute movement.
Teaching Biomechanics - making it simple
The art of good teaching is to find a way to take what is now a highly complicated science and give that knowledge in a way thatanyone can understand.
We can make the most sophisticated tests be as simple as:
Do you carry your backpack over your left or right shoulder? Is your left earring or right earring closer to the ground?
Making science simple is the role of the modern teacher of sports biomechanics.
Not just for humans...
Biomechanics does not only apply to humans, it is also the scientific study of any living mechanical thing, such as a greyhound, a race horse, or how a cheetah runs.
Study in these areas is obviously highly important to the racing and greyhound industry, and there are world class specialists working specifically in this field alone.
Disabled, Elderly & Injured
A large area of study in the science of Biomechanics works hand in hand with engineers, working on developing artificial limbs, or working with neurologists to start to get hands & feet moving again. Very different from the science of Sports Biomechanics, it can be one of the most rewarding fields, and is highly sought after by riders who have artificial limbs and want to ride in a Therapeutic Riding Program, or Riding for Disabled.
Studying Biomechanics as a Science
For many years biomechanics in its various forms has been offered as a subject within science degrees. However it has now become such a broad and respected area of study within itself, and now a large employer of people around the world that the need for trained biomechanists has seen biomechanics degrees being offered at several universities around the world.

From the airline company wanting their staff to have elegant posture, to the mining company ensuring safe lifting practices - posture coaches & specialists help business & industry around the world assessing occupational health and safety issues with posture & lifting. Sitting at desks for long periods, carrying backpacks, hunched over laptops, even how airline staff pick up the coffee pot! All are modern issues being addressed biomechanics specialists in this new rapidly-growing science.
