HAPPY 25TH ANNIVERSARY FHANA!

Outstanding!
One word to sum up the 25th Anniversary Celebration commemorating the anniversary of the Friesian Horse Association of North America.

In the presence of the nation's finest Friesians, the week in Reno was a whirlwind of excitement.  The anticipation to arrive was immense and you could feel the enthusiasm that engulfed the arena.

It was great to have Cees Roozemond, Ids Hellinga, Douwe Willemsma, and Fetse Veldstra  present at this event and accessible to answer questions and provide valuable information to the membership of FHANA (http://www.kfps.nl)

There were a variety of educational clinics available to the attndees.  One in particular that I was in attendance for was the Upper Level Dressage Clinic given by William (Bill) Solyntjes, from Hamel, Minnesota.      Mr. Solyntjes, an "S" dressage judge, is co-owner and operator of a dressage training and sport horseLisa in Reno breeding facility which has produced many in-hand and USDF year-end winners.  He has earned his Bronze, Silver and Gold medals from the USDF and maintains an active clinic and coaching schedule throughout the year.  He has worked extensively with the Friesian breed as a judge, trainer and instructor.

A special note, Iron Spring Farm will forever be remembered as the Dressage class sponsor for the 25th Anniversary Convention.

Being an American, married to a Dutchman, I have come to appreciate the Dutch culture in a variety of ways (besides the cheese, bread, chocolate and tulips).

One of the thrilling aspects of this event for me was to see several "sjezen" up close and personal.  The handcrafted detail was amazing.  One of my favorite classes showcased the sjees.

SjeesThe "sjees" is manned by a gentleman and a lady dressed in the traditional costumes of the 1860's. The lady wears a solid golden casque that all but covers the back of her head. Over it she wears a lace bonnet. The gentleman wears knickerbockers and a black tophat. The Friesian "sjees" is the only carriage, apart from agricultural wagons, in which the driver is seated on the left-hand side. He keeps his lady on his right as being the place of honor

It was terrific to see the well attended classes, some divisions with as many as 19 Friesians competing.

A fun class that really got the crowd roaring was the Traditional Friesian Trotting Races and the costume classes displayed beautiful and elegant costumes.  THEN, there was the sight of Will Bron dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz!   It took the announcer a while to catch on to who exactly that "woman" was, but when he did . . .boy, you can believe Will will never live this one down!   Will wasn't just another "pretty woman" though, he showcased his talents by claiming the Reinsmanship Driving division.  The level of skill displayed was truly impressive.

There were so many fantastic moments, from the horse show, to the sale, to the beautiful Hall of Fame ceremony.

What a great opportunity to see so many Approved Stallions at one event! And, I would be remiss if I did not mention the breathtaking Concourse De Elegance division; and the exhibition of Eight In Hand!

A huge thank you to Scott & Shelley Kelnhofer and all the devoted board members & general membership who meticulously planned this creative event that will live on in the history of FHANA!  To our dedicated FHANA Office Staff, as always, your teamwork shines!

Here's a fun YouTube that I put together with just a few of the exciting highlights from the show!

FHANA, gefeliciteerd met uw jubileum!

Satisfied Customer Comments ShirleyWG
Meet Shirley Brooks Whirley & Karst

Arnold Warmels trains my First Premie Star, Friesian gelding, Karst van de Olijftak.  Arnold has done a wonderful job in his training.  Karst went to Arnold very green in his training and is already doing flying lead changes, and gorgeous entended trot!  He is getting rave reviews on his Dressage tests from the judges.

He now has muscles I never knew he had.   He has filled out and become a mature horse.

There are not enough kind words that I can say about his training methods.  Karst loves him.  Also Lisa is just wonderful.  She send me pictures  and videos all the time and kisses Karst for me quite often.  I have traveled to several shows and this couple always make me feel special.

They are truly great horse people which are hard to find.   I love you all.  It is so overwhelming to know that the people that have your horse in their care truly care about him and love him.

Karst is a 6 year old Friesian gelding who arrived for riding and driving training in April 2009.  Karst has traveled from St. Louis, to Ocala, FL for clinics, dressage shows, exhibitions, and has had many miles on the trail!   Watch for Karst in 2010 as he enters the Driving arena!

November news will highlight pictures from Karst's 2009 World Championship wins at
IFSHA, St. Louis!

Great riding mare.  Been mainly used on the trail and to ride with cattle.  Has foaled two beautiful stud colts.  Easy keeper.  Very quiet manners in cross ties, shoeing, trailering.  Likes to be groomed and loves individual attention.  Is more of a loner in a herd situation.  Great mothering instincts.

Lodestar's Bright Kitalpha, fondly known as Tally, is a gorgeous combination of her dam's height, build, intelligence, and disposition.  She has her famous sire's coloring, coat, and feather.   Tally is trained for both riding and driving, is solid on the trail, quiet on the road, rides with other horses, used in children's horse camps, and has been to a local schooling show.  She is sweet, smart, and willing to please.  Loves all the attention of grooming and stands quietly in the washbay for clipping, braiding, washing, etc.   Tally would make the perfect FIRST horse!  She is suitable for the beginner, but an experienced rider would have a great time with her as well because of her
willingness to learn new things!
