A Note From Our Trainer. . .

Every time we receive a new training client at our farm, the first weeks are very exciting and personal where both me and the horse are getting to know each other. The horse has no idea what is in store for him, yet I know quite well where we will go in the weeks ahead. Like a child attending his first day in school, the teacher has a confidence is seeing this youngster leave in time as a talented student facing a bright future ahead.
The teaching process takes patience, confidence and determination with a solid basis of experience and knowledge of the teacher. The lesson should be more clear to the teacher and taught with consistency and clarity. There is no room for frustration, anger or hurry.
"Like a dancer forced to dance by whip and spike will never display true beauty, nor will a horse trained under similar conditions" - Xenophon 500 BC

THE TENNESSEAN DRESSAGE SHOW!
For over 25 years riders have come to compete in The Tennessean, one of the premier dressage shows in the Southeast recognized by the United States Equestrian Federation and the United States Dressage Society.
This year's show, once again hosted by the Central Tennessee Dressage Association was held May 30 & 31 at the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, TN. Over the years The Tennessean has been held at various locations throughout Middle Tennessee, from the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville to Brownland Farms in Franklin, TN.
Its current venue at Miller Coliseum offers exhibitors 3 full-sized indoor arenas, along with both covered and outdoor warm-up areas, and ample stabling. The members of CTDA work throughout the year to make plans for The Tennessean and its second United States Equestrian Federation show The Ole South Dressage Classic and The Ole South Sport Horse Breed Show held in late August, also at Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro.
The hard work pays off for both CTDA, exhibitors, and numerous volunteers as the show plays host to exhibitors from Tennessean, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Missouri and more as they compete in levels from Introductory (walk-trot) through Training, up to Fourth level and on to the advanced FEI levels of Prix St. Georges, Intermediare I, II, and Grand Prix. Spectators are treated to a variety of breeds competing. This year many breeds were represented: various warmblood breeds, Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Friesians, Quarter Horses, Morgans, and a special treat of a beautiful Irish Drum stallion. There is no charge for spectators who are always welcome and can even do some shopping at the various vendors at the show between rides. Rebecca Jones CTDA Member Tennessean & Ole South Dressage Show Announcer.

Horse Business Features vs. Client Benefits Are you Making this Costly Mistake?
The difference between "Features" and "Benefits" is one of the most important concepts to understand in order to make your horse business more profitable.
Unfortunately, this critical business concept is often overlooked or misunderstood. As a business owner, you build features into the products or services that you offer so that you can sell the benefits. In other words, clients "buy" benefits not features.
Because the client buys the benefit rather than the feature, it is important that you get good at "communicating in benefits" rather than simply listing or rattleing off features.
In order to see why this is important, lets look at various types of horse businesses and the features they might offer -
-
For example: A lesson program might have these features 5 School Horses High quality equipment Lighted Indoor Arena Certified Instructors
-
A horse for sale has these - 15.2 h Bay with 4 white socks Gelding 2nd Level Dressage Horse
-
Or a boarding stable.. 150 x 275 ft arena wth "nike" footing in it 12 x 24 stalls bedded w/6 bags of bedding per week
Now lets add the corresponding benefits - Lesson Program 5 School Horses Clients are matched well w/horses Quality equipment Saddles are comfortable/clients don't need to buy. Lighted Indoor Arena Clients can ride at night and in any weathr Certified Instructors High caliber of instruction & safety
Horse for sale 15.2 h A great size for a child or small adult Bay with 4 white socks Beautiful horse that stands out in the show ring Gelding Calm and simple to deal with 2nd Level Dressage Horse Is ready for a new rider to compete now
Boarding Stable 150 x 275 ft arena with "nike" footing = Room to train and helps promote soundness 12 x 24 stalls bedded w/6 bags of bedding per week = comfort and health
As an equine professional, it may be so automatic for you to envison the benefits associated with these features, that you no one needs to point them out to you (it is like this for technical experts in a variety of fields i.e. computer geeks relate to gigs). BUT... for customers the opposite is true.
The customer does not automatically attach benefits to features - you must do it for them. . .
