When we do the toy drive for Aunt Martha's, I hear from many customers how this has impacted them. I received an e-mail from a customer that I asked if I could share with you. It proves that how by giving to others, we receive so much!
"I'd like to share a great little story. I took my son with me because we had other running around to do and one of those errands was going to GameStop to see if we could still get some old Nintendo DS games because this past weekend, his DS was stolen with a case full of games.
I've been trying to explain to him why there are dishonest people in the world and how to try and be a good, honest person even though it is hard. I have to admit that one of the reasons I wanted to donate to the shelter was to show him that we still need to be good people even though life isn't always fair. He was so devastated losing his game system. He felt like it was the end of his world.
When we were shopping and he saw the things on the list, he felt stupid that these kids were looking for basic stuff and I think he actually at that point realized that even though something bad happened to him, other people had it worse. He said he wanted to buy a board game with his money so he actually bought the Candyland game. I was so proud of him. He's trying to save up to replace what was stolen from him and said, "It's only a couple weeks of allowance. I'll just have to save up for a couple more weeks."
I cried all the way home because I'm so used to seeing him act like a selfish little boy who just doesn't get it, and he showed me yesterday that he's actually growing up. I just had to share that. It was a huge moment for me. J" |
