Are Your Health and Beauty Aids Killing You?

Greetings!
It's hard to believe, but the holidays are Store gifalmost here!  And, while that brings lots of family fun and good food, it also brings some nasty critters in the form of cold and flu viruses.  I hope you'll all take a moment and read a couple of great articles I have found on alternatives to the flu shot and the possible dangers of the flu shot in children.  These articles offer some important information to help you decide what is right for your family.
I am also happy to report that Mother is launching our new HBA department this month.  To celebrate, we'll be offering  FREE mini-facial on Saturday, November 14 and Saturday, November 29.  Call 304.428.1024 for your appointment today!
Remember to tune in to 1230AM on Wednesdays from 9-9:30am for Ask the Expert, my new radio show.  Call for answers to your health questions - 304.428.7267.
One more reminder...we are ordering free range and organic turkeys now for your holiday feast.  Order by November 17 for Thanksgiving!

Good Health,
Dave

FDA Called Out for August Stance on BPA

Since our last newsletter, an FDA advisory panel has agreed that the FDA erred in their recent finding that plastics containing BPA were safe.  The committee found that the FDA had relied too heavily on studies funded by the chemical industry.  Read all the details here.
Update on HPV Vaccine...Is "One Less"  Campaign An Ironic Play on Words?
According to the CDC, the human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in America. More than 6 million women contract it annually, yet cervical cancer claims less than 3,900 women - most of which are due to not getting regular Pap smears. Why is your risk of dying from cervical cancer so low?  Because your immune system is usually strong enough to clear up this kind of infection on its own, and does so in more than 90 percent of all cases. The CDC even admits to this fact on their website.  And, as long as you're getting regular PAP smears, cervical cancer can be caught in its early, and easily treatable, stages.
Marketing geniuses are known to play on words and create slogans with quirky double meanings, and if you've been tracking the concerns raised about the potential hazards of Gardasil and Cervarix, the potential for these HPV vaccines to cause infertility - whether purposely or inadvertently - is being heard with ever increasing frequency.
The federal government's Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) has received over 9,000 reports of problems since the vaccine's introduction in 2006, which include at least 28 spontaneous abortions, and 27 deaths.
Is it possible that Gardasil's cry to fame, 'One Less', is turning out to be nothing but a sick, ironic play on words?  Get the full article here

Worried About Childhood Obesity?  Marketing Scams that Might Have You Fooled

Childhood obesity is on the rise, with 32% of children weighing in as "overweight" while another 27% qualify as obese.  Some initiatives by the food industry, particularly junk food manufacturers, seem aimed at helping our children make smart choices.  But, beware...many of the seemingly "healthier" choices are no better for your kids than the original option.  Many school systems have made the wise choice to remove sugary soft drinks from their campuses only to replace them with sports drinks and flavored waters that contain just as many undesirable ingredients.  Click here for a list of ten things the food industry doesn't want you to know.
