"Hope works in these ways:
It looks for the good in people
instead of harping on the worst;
It discovers what can be done
instead of grumbling about what cannot;
It regards problems, large or small, as opportunities;
It pushes ahead when it would be easy to quit;
It lights a candle instead of cursing the darkness."

Dear Friends
This issue comes to you shortly before the Autumn Equinox, a time of balance and equilibrium between the hours of light and darkness when there is the opportunity to stand back and reflect, and link with a still point of clarity and peace. Now is the time to pause, to reconnect at a deep level with that which sustains us, as we look back on a tumultuous few months of disruption and upheaval all over the planet, and also within the personal lives of many.
In the old story, when Pandora's box was opened and all the ills of the world escaped, one single thing remained - HOPE. The light of hope is more important than we may appreciate. And, as Llewellyn Vaughan Lee points out, "Nor do we realise the degree to which our intention, our attitude, our individual participation can affect the life of the whole and the way the future will unfold." So as we turn to look forward from this still point, we remember the contribution which we make to the nature of this unfolding.
Connection on one level has never been easier with the proliferation of technology accessible to so many, and we welcome all those who subscribe to this newsletter or read it via our website. Virtual companionship and "friendship" are there for all online, as people seek to make contact and share the details of their daily lives. There is a sense of drawing together, of individuals seeking a sense of belonging within a collective network of connections.
For group work, such connections can form a valuable component. A number of excellent online webinars and telephone seminars are available, as are recordings and videos of good speakers and teachers, and conference calls can help groups to stay in touch. Many groups however experience a dynamic and an interchange between people sitting in the same room which cannot be evoked by electronic means.
Within Wrekin we have a number of opportunities planned this Autumn for associates and friends to come together, and we warmly welcome any of you who would like to join us. In addition, the Forthcoming Events column on the left carries a long list of just some of the events planned by associates in different parts of the country.
We particularly welcome those who are able to join with us for a day of Holding the Vision on Tuesday 5 October, to support the important work of a small group which has been meeting regularly for some years to maintain inner focus and connection on behalf of the Wrekin Trust. Please join with us if you can for a day of peace and reflection, and send your loving thoughts and support if you are unable to be at Douai Abbey in person. To book, please contact carolduncan8hl@btinternet.com.
Hawkwood College is filling up for the weekend of 29-31 October, so if you are planning to join us at our Annual Round Table do please send off that registration form now! We have a wonderful experiential feast planned, with a focus on Evolutionary Consciousness, and special sessions on work with young people and the role of the elders at this time of change and opportunity.
Next year the Wrekin Trust celebrates its 40th anniversary, and we are planning a number of events around the country to carry us forward in a spirit of hope and well being. Further details will follow. Do join us if you can.
Blessings
Carol Duncan

"We need both common sense
and a commitment to what is new.
We have to live the reality of what is here
as well as the infinite possibilities of the future.
This energy will affect us each in our own way and
will often go undetected because it is so new.
We always look for what we know, for the
way our conditioning has prepared us.
What is wondrous and unexpected
takes longer to accustom ourselves to.
Nor do we realize the degree to which
our intention, our attitude, our individual
participation can affect the life of the whole
and the way the future will unfold.
At the dusk of a patriarchal era,
we are still conditioned to being
children who are told what to do."
Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee |
 | Message from Janice |
It is becoming self-evident that change is occurring all around us. The media focus on outer disturbances - be these geographical, ecological, economic, political - tends to emphasise the negative.
In Wrekin we focus more on the inner shifts that are occurring - from a life engulfed in materiality to an awakening of the spiritual dimension in some way, or from an ongoing dedication to spiritual development to a far deeper realisation of a new reality that is emerging from within ourselves, both individually and collectively.
These dynamics of change mean that we are discovering ourselves in new ways, by:
- living into a higher consciousness that is increasingly multi-dimensional
- transforming our relationship with Gaia and the wider cosmos
- developing a deeper sense of community, collaboration and service to others
- finding each incident or challenge to be an opportunity to go within and first transform those qualities in ourselves that have created the challenge from which we can learn.
Blessings

Making the two One | |
As we integrate the inner and outer aspects of any situation so we both open up channels of love, joy and compassion within ourselves and, at the same time, anchor a little more of this consciousness within the physical plane.
If this shifting of consciousness draws you to engage, then do consider joining us for any or all of:
· Evolutionary Consciousness: What is it? What Has to Change?
Annual Round Table, Hawkwood College, 29-31 October 2010
· Co-Creating in Momentous Times, a Transforum on the Experience of
What is Emerging, Hawkwood College, 25-27 March 2011
· Journey to Christ Consciousness Gathering
The Findhorn Foundation, 7-10 April 2012
We are all called to this venture, it is for us to choose to respond in whatever way is right for us. |

Young People and the New Renaissance | |
A special feature of our Annual Round Table this year will be a focus on work taking place with young people from early years to adolescence which assists them to become more aware of and understand their own spirituality as an aspect of their personal and social development.
If you know of anyone working with young people who might be interested in taking part in this discussion, please ask them to contact Roger Orgill, 01432 277410, roger.orgill04@gmail.com. Details and booking form are available from admin@wrekintrust.org. |

| Regional Development | |
We are continuing to grow our network of Local Connectors, and together we are setting up regional round tables in several new places.
In Bristol a small parcel of government funding is enabling us to provide a more intensive focus. A project advisory group is already established and acting as a core which is working towards a Wrekin regional round table to be held in Bristol on 13 November and a regional conference on 11 March 2011.
If you have any members, friends, or colleagues in the Bristol area who might be interested in either of these events, do please send their details to Nigel Anthony, nigel.anthony@holisticmap.org, and he will connect them with what is happening. |

You were born with goodness and trust
You were born with ideals and dreams
You were born with greatness
You were born with wings
You are not meant for crawling, so don't
You have wings

| Local Learning | |
We are in the process of compiling a package for Local Connectors with details of workshops or presentations that fellow associates are willing to make available to local groups.
If you would like to offer learning events to groups in various localities, do please send a description or flier to Janice Dolley on info@wrekintrust.org with a note on how far you might be willing to travel and whether you need to ask for remuneration beyond your expenses. This information will be given to Local Connectors at their annual day together on 29 October just prior to the Round Table. |
"If indeed the qualities such as
patience, tolerance, and forgiveness
are what happiness consists in
and if it is also true that compassion,
defined as concern for others,
is both the source and the fruit of these qualities,
then the more we are compassionate,
the more we provide for our own happiness."

HOPE BENEATH OUR FEET
Restoring Our Place in the Natural World
ed Martin Keogh
North Atlantic Books, September 2010
This much needed and hope-giving book addresses the vital question:
In a time of environmental crisis, how can we live right now?
Responses are offered by a chorus of voices, including contributions from Diane Ackerman, Paul Hawken, Derrick Hensen, Barbara Kingsolver, Frances Moore Lappé, Barry Lopez, Bill McKibben, Michael Pollan, Alice Walker, Howard Zinn, and others, with an afterword by Wendell Berry.
Barbara Marx Hubbard, founder of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution, has said of this book:
"Hope Beneath Our Feet is just that. With penetrating clarity it takes us into the depths of our essential nature: our courage, brilliance and resilience. We are called to take advantage of the greatest opportunity for conscious self-evolution the human species has ever been given. A real masterwork."
To read the Introduction, sample quotes, and place an order visit www.martinkeogh.com.
Hope Beneath Our Feet is printed on 100% recycled post-consumer waste paper, and 25% of the book's proceeds will go directly to environmental causes. (details)
Have you read an interesting book recently, and would like to tell others about it? If you think it would also interest readers of this newsletter, do please send us the details together with a short review and we may be able to feature it in Book Review Corner. |

"I am in heaven.
The revelation of myself is holy.
My kingdom comes because I am here.
My will is done in earth because
my will is done in heaven.
I give the bread of life
in each moment of my living on earth.
I forgive and that forgiveness is received by
those who share the spirit of forgiveness.
I lead no one into tribulation,
but deliver all evil into the creative cycle.
For mine is the kingdom present on earth
because I am present on earth.
Mine is the creative power of the Word.
And mine is the glory which results,
shining round about, to be reflected
by the world which I create."
"Prayer of Being"
