Dear Friends
As a new year opens for each of us, on a personal level we may be reflecting upon our intentions, making resolutions, and going forward into new beginnings. Huge changes are happening around us, and news of world events bring a constant reminder of the great cyclic unfolding which is taking place in space and time.
We are also reminded that "underneath the patterns of instability in the world, a profound spirit of love and good will is at work", and that we are engaged in "a different level of collective working than has been seen before".
Your New Year Newsletter brings you news and views from Forum associates and other friends on the path. Each individual, each divine spark, brings its own light to the work in hand. As we journey together, we share and contribute towards a collective field of consciousness and good will, and support the development of spiritual awareness in the wider group.
If you have any contributions which you would like to make to News&Views, or any forthcoming events which you would like featured, do let me know and I will do my best to accommodate them. The closing date for the next issue is 1 March.
With love and blessings for the year ahead

'Underneath the patterns of instability in the world, a profound spirit of love and good will is at work, using the instability and the individuals that emerge from it as a farmer uses a plow, to turn the soil, and prepare it for new seed and new harvest.'

Message from Janice |
|
Since the early days of its formation, the Forum has tried to draw together the values that are being expressed by associates in different ways, and help create a field of unified conscious thinking that can radiate more brightly. To achieve sufficient potency in the face of the present global risks and opportunities, we need to work with 'one heart and one mind'.
To this end, those who have thus far taken on the role of Trustee or served on the Strategy and Development Group are meeting for a reflective day together at Douai Abbey on 29 January, to strengthen the foundation of what is to come in the year ahead.
Other 'co-creators' are meeting in small teams to prepare for some of the small steps: for regional groups, a retreat, trans-organisational inquiries, participative inquiries, and the annual Round Table (18-20 September). All contributions are needed. If everything we do, individually and in groups, is done with love - for the task, for each other, for the earth, for Life - then the foundation of ethical and spiritual values can grow from within.

The Challenge of Change |
|
As we move into 2009, while at one level there is a great deal of darkness and insecurity around, at another level we need to remember that this is so because there is also a huge amount of powerful spiritual light available at this time, and that one of its effects is to illumine for us what needs changing in the world - what stands in the way of our personal and planetary evolution. Our challenge, therefore, is to meet our future with a big heart trusting that, if a better world is to emerge, it is our responsibility to mid-wife it into being and that we will be best empowered to do so to the extent that we consciously choose to align ourselves with the new life wishing to be born and increasingly learn to surrender our identification with all those life patterns that no longer work. Serge Beddington Behrens, Wrekin Trustee For further guidance on this theme, see Serge's new essay 'The Challenge of Change' which can be found on his website www.sergebb.com |

Holding Group |
"We are creating an 'ark of consciousness'. All are free to enter or choose not to enter. Entering requires surrender. This is a different level of collective working than has been seen before."

"Despite current ads and slogans, the world doesn't change one person at a time. It changes as networks of relationships form among people who discover they share a common cause and vision of what's possible.
This is good news for those of us intent on changing the world and creating a positive future. Rather than worry about critical mass, our work is to foster critical connections. We don't need to convince large numbers of people to change; instead, we need to connect with kindred spirits.
Through these relationships, we will develop the new knowledge, practices, courage and commitment that lead to broad-based change." Margaret Wheatley

Spiritual UK |

Associate Nigel Anthony is involved with a project which brings together Contemporary Spirituality, Traditional Religions and the wider civic society - in a spirit of community building and social cohesion. If you have passion for interfaith work, being a voice for contemporary spirituality or being an activist for spirituality/love/peace, then please have a look at the early stages of a movement of which we are all a part in some way. Nigel's personal passions are the challenge of stepping up to be a clear voice for a holistic approach to spirituality - wherever religion is in society, we should be there also - and for creating a Spiritual Map of the UK which shows contemporary spirituality alongside religious and faith communities (check out Cardiff or Swansea on the website map to see the start of this project - all loving feedback welcomed!)

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
"Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown!"
And he replied:
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand
into the Hand of God.
That shalt be to you better than light
and safer than a known way."
Marie Louise Haskins 1876-1957
