May 2010 News

Greetings,
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at my artist talk and reception last month for my "Thrills & Chills exhibit at the Griffin Museum of Photography. Thank you for sharing this special evening with me. I also want to thank museum Executive Director Paula Tognarelli for her support and guidance. Working with Paula on the show preparations was not only a valuable learning experience, it was also rather fun. Thanks also to Associate Director Frances Jakubek for her assistance and to Paul Sneyd of Panopticon Imaging for his financial assistance with the exhibition and for his beautiful work and friendship.
I'm writing to share with you some exciting recent press I've received on NPR and in The Boston Globe. I also have launched an online store through which you can purchase signed exhibition catalogs and a special print offer. Finally, I've listed a few upcoming events in which you can see my work, including the first gallery showing of my elderly animal images that will be held next month at Gallery 339 in Philadelphia, PA. For details, see below.
Thanks for reading! As always, I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards, Isa

Recent Press
I am thrilled by the flurry of recent press that I've received recently. Last month I
was featured on NPR's Picture Show blog. In
addition, Pulitizer Prize winning art critic Mark Feeney reviewed
my work for the April 30th issue of the The Boston Globe.
The printed version of the piece ran with two of my images, which you
can see here. Feeney also wrote
about my work for the Movie Nation blog on Boston.com.
Feeney writes about my work: "The results are very striking: sinister
and funny and disorienting all at once. Leshko usually shoots the rides
with empty sky in the background, so nothing frames them but infinity
and exultation (or is it fear?). A particularly choice example is
"Dangling Legs." Depending on how you look at it, the ride has swallowed
the other parts of the riders' bodies -- or this could be a still from a
production number Fritz Lang had Busby Berkeley stage for Metropolis." |
Thrills & Chills Catalog + Special Print Offer
I
am selling signed exhibition catalogs from my Thrills & Chills show
at the Griffin Museum of Photography. To commemorate the catalog's
release, I am also offering a limited edition archival pigment print of "The
Wave" at a special price. Orders for the catalog and/or print can be placed below in this e-mail or by visiting my online store. In his review of the catalog, David Bram, founder and editor of Fraction Magazine, states: "I
knew [Isa] would put a lot of love, sweat, and...tears
into [her catalog] and now that I have it, I can honestly say that she did. It is
lovely."
