Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior!
The church year is in full swing, and the ABHMS staff is hard at work, continuing to bring you the latest news, maintain an up-to-the-minute Web site and offer new information and resources to both simplify your life and keep your ministry on the cutting edge. Take this time to peruse the ABHMS Web site to see what's been added, including a new Justice Ministries section, featuring a variety of helpful links. Whether you minister to immigrants, refugees, returning citizens, people with disabilities, disaster survivors, children in poverty or others in need, ABHMS is here to support you, as you do unto "the least of these" (Matthew 25:40). Show your support for employment of people with disabilities |
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and ABHMS asks Baptist churches, seminaries, and other organizations to sign a statement of solidarity in a pledge to promote employment of qualified people with disabilities. July 26 marked the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but progress fulfilling its promise has been slow. Read the story on ABHMS' home page. Then follow a link to the American Association of People with Disabilities Web site, where you can sign the statement. |
Evangelism challenges the church's irrelevancy |
If your church has shied away from evangelism because members are uncomfortable handing out leaflets on street corners, listen to Dr. Jeff Johnson talk about a different way of sharing the Good News. In a podcast that's part of the American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) series, "Home Mission in Action," Johnson outlines the principles of relational evangelism that successfully bring people to Jesus Christ because its organic roots lie within each and every Christian. Relational or personality-based evangelism works: Let Johnson--national coordinator of evangelism and new church planting at ABHMS--tell you how.
