American Baptist Home Mission
August 2010

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior!

Summer may be winding down with the lazy, hazy, crazy days of August, but American Baptist Home Mission Societies is not resting on its laurels. If you are taking a well-deserved break sometime this month, let the news in this newsletter help you lighten the load of ministry when the church season starts
up again in September. We continually seek to support you, and we welcome your suggestions about how we can improve at that.

Penny Project proves small change
can make a big difference
ABHMS logo smallerAmerican Baptist churches and related ministries around the country continue to collect pennies as part of The Penny Project--the total number now tops 3 million! One church in Wisconsin found that the lessons learned reach far beyond raising awareness about the 14 million children in the United States and Puerto Rico who struggle to reach their God-given potential because of inadequate resources to nurture their growth and development. If your church isn't already part of this effort, consider adopting the project as part of new Back-to-School programming for your Sunday school or youth group.
Recovery in Haiti continues ...
American Baptists are helping
ABHMS logo smallerIn the wake of the massive destruction caused by the earthquake earlier this year, Haitian nationals have been granted an extension of the deadline to apply for Temporary Protected Status by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Help spread the word, so more Haitians can seek temporary refuge here. American Baptists aren't stopping there, however. A Haitian Solidarity Fund established by American Baptist Home Mission Societies provided, in part, for a trip to the devastated country by ABHMS Haitian Ministries' consultant who helped with rebuilding.
