American Baptist Home Mission
April 2010

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior!

Spring and the holy Easter season bring the promise of new life. National Ministries is especially excited about the theme of new life this year, as we prepare to continue our legacy of home mission in a new way. Read on, and join our celebration of faithful witness across the United States and Puerto Rico later in the month. Together we bring new life to those we serve.

This spring, find inspiration
in Baptists who've gone before
April calendarNational Ministries stands on the shoulders of committed home missionaries who have paved the way for today's ministries across the United States and Puerto Rico. On the date of its founding, April 27, National Ministries will lift up that legacy of faithfulness by reclaiming its historical names at a daylong celebration in New York City, the site of its founding. It's a history-making moment in the life of American Baptist Churches USA, and you can be part of it. Please join the day of worship and witness--you're sure to come away with renewed inspiration for your own faith journey.
Penny Project impacts children's lives

Is your church collecting pennies to change children's lives? If not, start now! The nationwide effort just passed the two million mark, on the way to amassing 14 million pennies to represent the same number of children living in poverty across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Groups are using funds to buy backpacks, host birthday parties for children in homeless shelters, and so much more. Even the National Council of Churches USA is promoting The Penny Project on its Poverty Initiative pages. Your ministry group will find reward in joining the momentum for change.

Need some help with Vacation Bible School planning?

Well, look no further. National Ministries has a list of ideas for mission projects that your summer students can relate to: Raise funds for birthday parties for children in Michigan or staples like peanut butter and cereal for children in New York. There are more project ideas that are just as relevant to helping your young people understand how poverty affects children day in and day out, robbing them of basic necessities and life activities most of us take for granted.

FREE BOOK!
nuChristian book coverResponse to last month's treasure hunt (of sorts) for free tee shirts was so popular, we're offering a free book this month.
On one of the pages linked to this newsletter, you'll find a six-digit code in brackets. Find the code and send it to karen.drummond@abc-usa.org. Each of the first six responders will receive a free copy of the Judson Press book, nuChristian. This book--named one of Outreach Magazine's Top Resources of the Year--is the ABC Reads 2010 selection. Happy hunting!
