Look no further for discipleship support |
National Ministries' 2010 Discipleship Planning Guide is the resource you need to help mission, worship and Christian education committees plan in the coming year. The guide includes a life span development chart, Christian Education Sunday materials and devotions in English, Spanish and French. Developed by National Ministries' staff--thanks to support from the America for Christ Offering--the guide has been sent in hard copy format to all ABCUSA churches and regions. E-mail karen.drummond@abc-usa.org if you haven't received your copy, or download it here. |

Judson Press' newest release, Coming Together in the 21st Century: The Bible's Message in an Age of Diversity, offers an in-depth study of multiculturalism and diversity in Scripture. Almost half of this edition, updated and revised for its 15th anniversary of publication, features new material, including contributions from ethnically and culturally diverse contributors like Brenda Salter-McNeil, Richard Twiss, Mimi Haddad and Allan Boesak. Also, the definition of diversity adds gender and class to race, culture and ethnicity. A group reflection and action guide makes this an ideal resource for small group discussion. |
American Baptist chaplain featured in upcoming ABC documentary |
An interfaith documentary, A Place for All: Faith and Community for Persons with Disabilities--which explores courageous stories of persons with disabilities--includes an interview with American Baptist chaplain the Rev. Bill Gaventa, director of Community and Congregational Supports at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School's The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities. ABC television stations nationwide will begin airing the program December 6. Find out when you can watch A Place for All, aimed at working toward truly inclusive communities of faith, in your neighborhood. |
The church needs to be seen and heard |
At November's black church conference in Chicago, Power Connection: A Call to Greater Works, participants were challenged with new ideas about preaching and teaching. But mostly they came away convinced the church needs to be deliberate about getting involved in the lives of individuals and communities--about standing as Christian witness when it comes to public policy. With worship, workshops and camaraderie, participants found renewal, respite--and joy too. | |
