Edie Friedman
Dear friends and supporters,

We've just had wonderful news -  a grant of £51,683 from Children in Need, which will allow us to continue our JUMP project for another three years.  This is a fantastic vote of confidence from a major national donor, and an endorsement of the valuable work we're doing with isolated teenage refugees.

But that doesn't mean we focus any less on our core work. As a recent Panorama programme about racial attacks on a Bristol estate showed, racism in the UK is shockingly alive and well.

So we're as busy as ever: delivering race-equality education in schools, helping destitute asylum seekers and launching a new campaign.

We rely on your help to carry on doing these things, so please demonstrate your support by coming to our events or booking a JCORE session.

Standup against racism
Comedy evening

Last night, top comedians Simon Brodkin, Shappi Khorsandi, Lucy Porter, and Paul Sinha shared the stage at the Comedy Café, Shoreditch,  in aid of JCORE.

Simon Brodkin as Lee Nelson held the show together perfectly as compare, and the comedians delighted the audience with topical humour that had the crowds laughing out loud all night.

Organiser Tami Greene said, " We are hugely grateful to the four stars for giving their time and talent to support JCORE - they put on a fantastic show and helped raise over £3000 for JCORE's work".
JCORE in schools Lighting the way

kaytaKatya, pictured (right) was among sixty primary-school children taking part in JCORE's current twinning project.  Last month, workshop leader Hannah Grant took Katya's Year 1 class from Clore Shalom to visit their counterparts at Krishna Avanti school to learn about Diwali.  The children joined in playground games, made diva lanterns and drew rangoli patterns, before singing 'toda rabah' to their hosts in the Hindu temple.

Next month the Krishna Avanti children will visit Clore Shalom to learn about Chanukah.  What better way of understanding each other's heritage?

NEW CAMPAIGN: End detention of children

Two recent press articles reveal that the Borders Agency is routinely detaining the children of refused asylum seekers, with appalling consequences.

In a recent case, one girl, on the eve of her 11-plus, was picked up in a dawn raid and returned to a detention centre, against the specific advice of doctors, where she tried to strangle herself.   Please add your voice to the campaign by writing to your MP and your local paper - and send us a copy of your letter. Thank you.
