2007 - 2009

Look at what we have done with your support!

In the past two years, CFS has...

1.  Provided paid social justice fellowships to 68 youth ages 14 - 16 from low-income communities in Chicago through the Freedom Fellowship Program.  The fellowship is a year-round initiative where youth learn leadership skills, explore movement-building history, and develop social action projects.

2.  Hosted 42 public education programs that engaged more than 1250 youth and adults in intergenerational dialogues about the history of social movements and how lessons from history can be applied to today's work.

3.  Trained 22 professionals from 17 organizations in a 4-day Midwest Youth Organizer Training Institute which immersed participants in best practices in the field of youth-led organizing.

4.  Facilitated workshops for over 700 students at 13 Chicago high schools on the history of voting and voting rights in the U.S. as part of our public education programming.

5.  Trained 114 people in understanding adultism and how this form of oppression can be addressed in work with youth.

6.  Collaborated with at least 34 schools, universities and organizations and engaged approximately 102 youth, scholars, activists and educators as volunteers since 2006.

7.  As one of the leading partner organizations of the national Education for Liberation Network, co-sponsored a national education  conference in 2007 with more than 450 participants.  We will also co-host the next "Free Minds, Free People" conference in Houston, TX, in June 2009.

8.  Made a significant global connection when CFS youth inspired the launching of the Kigali Freedom School in Kigali, Rwanda.   The youth founders of the Kigali Freedom School will attend CFS in 2009 as part of our first Global Fellows program.
Greetings!
This month the Chicago Freedom School celebrates it's second anniversary!  We can hardly believe that it has only be two years since the Chicago Freedom School officially opened as we have had so many incredible experiences and have been able to engage literally thousands of youth and adults in our work.

We are asking all of our friends to help us celebrate the success of CFS at least one of two ways:

1)  Attend our birthday pizza party!  Saturday, June 13, 5 - 8 pm, at the CFS Center for Social Change.  $10 requested donation includes raffle ticket, pizza and birthday cake.   Meet CFS founders, board members, staff and youth leaders.  All ages welcome!

2)  Make an online donation to CFS.  During these challenging economic times, it is essential that individuals continue to support the work that we do.  No matter the size of your donation,  you can rest assured that every single dollar will support youth-led social change, liberatory education and intergenerational movement-building.   Make your donation now or send to Chicago Freedom School, 719 S. State St., Ste. 3N, Chicago, IL  60605.

Thank you in advance for your support.  None of our work would be possible without you.

In peace and solidarity,

Mia Henry
