Eyes on the Prize II Series begins in January 2008
Episodes 7 - 14 to be screened at the CFS Center for Social Change
Many have seen the first six episodes of this acclaimed documentary, but since they were rarely broadcast on PBS stations, few people have seen the final eight episodes. Join CFS as we screen these episodes, three of which feature Chicago, and host scholars, activists and youth in an intergenerational discussion on topics such as justice in housing, economics and politics. The series will run on Thursdays from January 17 - March 6, 2008

CFS in the News!
CFS featured in both AREA Chicago and the Windy City Times
The newest issue of AREA Chicago,
"How We Learn" is worth a read cover to cover. This issue is an
examination of popular education resources and practices throughout
Chicago. Pick up a copy of AREA at the CFS center or in your neighborhood or check it out online.
After the Windy City Times's
reporter Amy Wooten interviewed CFS associate director Stephanie
Gentry-Fernandez in September, the newspaper published an article about
CFS and its role here in the city. Check it out here.

"Chicano!" a great success
Over 200 people joined us for the "Chicano!" film and discussion series in September and early October. CFS would like to thank our guests, Susana Banuelos, Prof. Elena Gutierrez, Marcos and Andrea Munoz, Samuel Garcia, and Alderman Manuel Flores for their role in connecting this series to their own personal experiences and to issues in Chicago today. CFS is also proud of the 2007 Freedom Fellows who helped plan and lead discussions: Adrian Birrueta, Hugo Martinez, Genesis Gomez and Azalie Ruiz. Many thanks to all those who attended one or more of the "Chicano!" screenings.

Girl's Best Friend Closes Its Doors
CFS says goodbye to a foundation that changed Chicago
The Girl's Best Friend Foundation did more than just provide grants. It pushed the envelope and worked in tandem with Chicago's activists, nonprofit leaders and youth to think big and act smart when working for social change.
It was a legacy grant from Girl's Best Friend and the vision of its founder Cyndie MaLachlan that made the the Chicago Freedom School possible. We give thanks and salute GBF for being a pioneer, a leader and a friend of all those working with youth towards justice.
