Personal legislative involvement may not be high on your list of priorities, but there are times when nothing is as compelling to an elected official as hearing from "real" people.
This is one of those times and your help is needed.
After months of anticipation, the "Employee Free Choice Act" (EFCA) or "card check" bill was re-introduced on Tuesday in the House of Representatives (H.R. 1409) and in the Senate (S. 560). If passed, union organizing activities are effectively streamlined, and even the smallest businesses may be impacted.
In the House, 222 Representatives have signed onto the measure, including Virginia Congressmen Boucher, Scott, Moran, and Connolly; Representative Nye, Wittman, Forbes, Perriello and Goodlatte have not committed. The Senate version, introduced by Senator Edward Kennedy, has 39 co-sponsors. Virginia Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner have yet to establish a position.
Please take just a moment to call, e-mail, fax or write Virginia's elected officials and voice your thoughts.
Without your help, elected officials assume they are acting on your behalf.
