It's late November and Thanksgiving week, or Dia de las Gracias, is upon us. The weather in Alamos is perfect. We welcome you to come for a last minute trip to stay at El Pedregal and join us for a mellow holiday and a delicious Sonoran Thanksgiving feast.
December is right around the corner and Alamos is a peaceful place to spend the time enjoying some mellow holiday cheer. Throughout the month, will be organizing and participating in several local community events, which you are welcome to come be a part of and help make a difference in this community. And, over the week of Christmas and New Years, we will be helping to organize three unique Audubon Christmas Bird Counts.
Looking ahead to 2012, we will be hosting two amazing yoga workshops, a Birds and Music trip to Alamos and many more things in the works.
For being a small place at the end of a dirt road in a sleepy Mexican town, there are a multitude of interesting events, classes, trips, workshops and other things going on at El Pedregal. And, mostly, it is a great place to just get away from it all! We invite you to come stay with us and be a part of the Alamos life.

Audubon Christmas Bird Counts in Southern Sonora
 | |
Laughing Falcon |
For the second year in a row, the avian rich region of southern Sonora will be home to a trifecta of Christmas Bird Counts. Last year, more than 70 birders participated in one or more of these three distinctly different CBCs...from the estuaries of the Sea of Cortez to the pine-oak habitat in the foothills of the Sierra Madre. Some of the more ambitious birders participated in all three! The Navopatia CBC takes place around the Agiabampo Estuary and is organized by our friends that run the Navopatia Field Station and the Alamos Wildlands Alliance. Aside from a great day of birding around the estuary, we may get lucky and enjoy one of their great fish taco feast for the CBC participants! In Alamos, the CBC, which has been going on for many years now, takes place in the dynamic tropical deciduous forest around the colonial town of Alamos and the compilation is always a festive event with great Mexican fare and good company. And, the Rancho Ecologico Monte Mojino (REMM) CBC,

the newcomer of the trio, takes place in the rugged foothills of the Sierra Madre and requires lots of logistical planning, as well as a couple nights in the field...but it is well worth it. Not only is this CBC an adventure, it provides a great opportunity to get out into the REMM properties and see the ongoing conservation work of this very worthwhile project.
Aside from great birding and contributing to the citizen science of the CBCs, it is an opportunity to meet local and visiting birders of all levels and participate in a few truly unique events. The three count compilers and organizers work hard to make sure that everyone participating in the counts has a great experience. We hope you can join us for one, two or three of these great CBCs.

Yoga at El Pedregal
This week yoga classes begin at El Pedregal, every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-10:00 a.m. and all levels are welcome. This is a great class to begin learning yoga or to deepen yoga regular practice in a relaxed and beautiful environment.
We are also very excited to announce two upcoming great workshops in 2012!
Shifting With the New Year : Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy for Rejuvenation
When: January 18 & 19
Instructor: Maria Kali Ma
Ayurveda is an ancient holistic medical science and its purpose is to heal and to maintain the quality and longevity of life. It offers the profound understanding of each person's unique body and mind type and offers a treatment regiment for each individual to eliminate the cause of imbalance, treat the condition, and rebuild and rejuvenate the body or maintain good health. It is the sister science of Yoga. In this workshop you will be introduced to Ayurvedic principles, learn about your own unique body-mind type, and learn practical tools suited for you to cultivate greater health and well-being. Yoga practices are commonly prescribed as part of a treatment regimen and you will learn and practice yoga poses best suited for your needs. Therapeutic Yoga practices will be incorporated to identify imbalances, release trauma, re-align, strengthen and relax the body. This is a unique opportunity to cleanse, renew, and rejuvenate for the new year and learn techniques specific for your self-care. This will be part lecture and part experiential yoga practice.
Maria KaliMa, RN, MS, e-RYT 500, is both a Structural Yoga therapist and an Integrative Yoga therapist. An avid practitioner of yoga for 30 years, and a teacher for 20, Maria's background as a registered nurse in rehabilitation and women's health inspired her to pursue yoga as a viable therapeutic milieu. She has completed a number of certifications, including trauma release training and Ayurvedic practitioner training.
Foundations and Refinements of Iyengar Yoga
When: March 19,20,21
Instructor: Deborah Bristow
Iyengar Yoga places special attention on developing strength, endurance, and correct body alignment-which brings calmness, balance and union of the mind and body. This practice focuses on Yoga asanas (postures). It is perfect for the beginning yoga student as well as more advanced students. If you want to add yoga into your life, this is the perfect opportunity. For the experienced yogi, this is the best opportunity to kick your yoga practice up a notch. Offered at half the price of similar workshops in the US. It is the best gift you can give yourself.
Deborah began her Iyengar Yoga studies in 1979 in San Francisco. She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institutes Advanced Studies Program and most recently, the Iyengar Therapeutic Yoga Certification program. Deborah has continued her studies at multiple Iyengar Yoga Workshops in the US and in Pune, India where she has spent a total of 12 months studying with Shri B.K.S. Iyengar and his family. Therapeutic Yoga certification is a very strenuous achievement. There are very few instructors worldwide that have this type of specialized training. Deborah currently lives and teaches in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Deborah is certified on the Junior Intermediate Level 3 to teach Iyengar Yoga.
Each workshop costs $150 USD for the 10 hour workshop or $565 for an all inclusive package that includes lodging, meals and instruction (limited private sessions are available).
