CHIAPAS IN MARCH!
We are looking forward to running two trips in Chiapas this March. Mexico's most southern state, is home to an amazing diversity in habitat and bird species and a high level of endemics. It is a fascinating place for anyone with a curiosity about birds and natural wonders, ancient civilizations and modern indigenous cultures. The first trip starts in Tapachula and covers the Pacific slope and ends in Tuxtla Gutierrez. The second trip, which is slightly longer, starts in Tuxtla Gutierrez and heads up to San Cristobal de las Casas and onto Lagos de Montebello. From there, we go deep into the Lacandon jungle and visit the remote ruins of Yaxchilan and the world famous, ancient city of Palenque. The two trips can be taken separately or together for a complete overview of Chiapas.

HOLIDAY EVENTS IN ALAMOS!
NEW YEARS DAY BRUNCH: On the first day of the year, we did a wonderful brunch for a great group of people here at El Pedregal. After a couple cold and drizzly days, we were a bit concerned about the weather, but the good will of the new year cooperated and we were blessed with a picture-perfect day. Seeing the spaces we've created being enjoyed by guests is a really good feeling! Several people remarked on how much they enjoy being at an event that is outside! And, that is why we have El Pedregal...it is a comfortable place to be closer to the natural world. The meal was delicious and the whole day was a great success. Thanks to my friend, Pam, for hosting the event!

CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNTS: The three bird counts that took place in southern Sonora were all resoundingly successful and great events. We are currently working on write ups for the counts and will make them available through our websites as well as in our next newsletter. Even though the weather was a factor in all three counts, we still managed to break the Alamos record for species! Stay tuned for more information and photos! We hope to make the 'triple count' in southern Sonora a tradition and we invite everyone to participate next year.

The beginning of a new year always holds lots and is a time of great promise and new beginnings. In these times of transition, it is always a time to reflect on our lives. For us, we are so thankful for all of our good fortune, our families, our community, our good health and the interesting and fun lives that we are able to lead. We are looking forward to many good adventures this year...as we write this David is starting our Yucatan trip and Jen is in Alamos, running the show on the home front, scheming on new things to do and places to see! We hope that in 2011, we'll get a chance to see familiar faces and meet new friends, whether it be here at El Pedregal or on the road with Solipaso. And, we hope that 2011 is good to you and yours.
