 Announcing the new Solipaso Website!

We are very pleased to present our new and improved Solipaso website!

All summer, we have been working on text and plowing through thousands of photos to create what we think is a great new website for us and our clients.  Many thanks go out to Travis McAshan and the good folks at Glide Design in Spicewood, Texas, who not only put up with our design details, but embraced them and created a very nice site.

A few of the new things you will find on the site:
  • More trip reports and bird lists - Although the new site for practical purposes is complete, we continue to add past trip reports and bird lists to it in the coming weeks to make the site even more informative.
  • The "Latest News" Blog - On the lower left side of the home page that there is a place to read our recent news, which is really a blog where we will be posting stories and news from the field and our life in Mexico.
  • Featured Trips - On the home page we highlight two of our upcoming or new trips for your consideration.
  • Photo Gallery -  A link to an array of photos taken by us and our participants on trips.
  • Toll Free Number - We now have a Toll Free phone number from the U.S. and Canada so you can call us for information anytime.
  • Trip Schedule By Date or By Region - It is now easier to find the trip you are looking for with a listing of trips by date and a map of Mexico with a listing of trips by region.
These are just a few of the new and improved elements that you will find on the site. We invite you to explore the site and let us know what you think. And we hope to see you on a trip soon!

DURANGO HIGHWAY AND SAN BLAS

November 8-15 and/or November 15-18, 2010                    $2200 / $890 per person

San Blas is a Mecca for birds, on this trip we spend a whole week birding all the hotspots of the area. With one hotel (no packing and unpacking), two boat trips, gourmet food and the warm hospitality of the Vasquez family at the Hotel Garza Canela, this trip is always a favorite.

The Durango Highway extension (or stand alone trip) is offered to those who want to get up into the mountains for the dramatic Tufted Jay and other high elevation west Mexico endemics, such as Bumblebee Hummingbird, Red Warbler, Rufous-capped and Green-striped Brush-finch, Golden-browed Warbler, Eared Quetzal and Aztec Thrush, ...Our home in the mountains is the simple but comfortable Daniel's in the quaint town of Copala.

CHIAPAS

Pacific Coast and Central Valley

March 4-10, 2011 $1800 per person

March 10-20, 2011 $2900 per person

There is so much to see in the state of Chiapas that we have divided it into two different trips. Huge habitat diversity means a lot of birds and these Chiapas itineraries offer both!

The shorter Pacific Coast and Central Valley focuses on the very localized Mexican endemics of these areas as well as species that are limited to extreme southern Mexico.
On our longer trip, we go from the Central Valley to Lagos de Montebello and then into the wild Lacandon jungle and onto the majestic ruins of Yaxchilan and Palenque. We also visit the Uscamacinta marshes. Both trips include a day to bird the area of the geological phenomena, Sumidero Canyon. The two Chiapas trips can be taken together for a thorough exploration of this avian rich state!

Join us for a wonderful weeklong adventure into the remote and beautiful Sierra Madre of Sonora and Chihuahua. Our trip is perfectly timed to see the endangered Thick-billed Parrot and another difficult to find Mexican endemic, the Eared Quetzal. The Sierra Madre will be at its greenest at the height of the rainy season, and we will be treated to lots of water and fantastic scenery, including the impressive Basaseachic falls, the 11th tallest single drop waterfall in the world!

From our office in Alamos, where we look out at the green Sierra de Alamos and listen to the Mexican Parrotlets singing in the big Chalate tree, we are getting ready for a great 2010-11 season. Mexico is a wonderful country, full of kind and hospitable people. We have nothing but complete confidence in all the places where we are currently running trips and take all necessary precautions so that our guests are safe, comfortable and well cared for. We invite you to explore out new website, then join us on a trip to experience a birding trip to Mexico, Solipaso style!
