The 4-1-1 about Food Cooperatives
When it comes to purchasing food, most people are familiar with the different places you can buy your groceries. Supermarket? Check. Natural Food Store? Check. Farmer's Market? Maybe a check...but definitely self-explanatory. Food Cooperative ("Co-op")? Hmm...come again? Isn't that the same as a natural food store?
Although food cooperatives can be found in many communities now and have a strong (and often long-standing) presence in the food buying market, people still may not understand what they are exactly and how they're unique from every other place you can buy food. So, since 2012 is the International Year of Cooperatives, we would like to clear up the "co-op mysteries" for you once and for all! Read more. |

We Need Bookworms and Shutterbugs!
We're calling on you to do one of two things (or both!):
1.) Recommend a good book to us! We're compiling our list of books that address sustainability to include in the 2013 edition of the SunriseGuide. In the past, featured books have ranged from Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver to Raising Elijah by Sandra Steingraber. We're relying on you to share the best titles. Please send us your recommendations by Tuesday, July 31.
2.) Submit your photos for our annual photo contest! The winners will be featured in the 2013 SunriseGuide. If we select your photo, it will be printed in the 2013 edition and you'll get a free copy of that book! Please submit your photos by Tuesday, July 31. Send us an email with a digital attachment or for more information. Share your voice with the SunriseGuide community! We look forward to hearing from you. |
