Maine Recycles Week, November 8th-15th Celebrating 25 years of recycling in Maine
There are lots of reasons why recycling makes sense for both our checkbooks and the environment. Among them... - Less trash going to landfills means less cost to towns and taxpayers.
- Recycling means a reduced need to use virgin materials in new products, thus protecting our natural resources.
- And composting, a form of recycling, reduces our trash load while also creating a valuable soil amendment that we can use in our gardens.
- Here are some more fun recycling facts.
Maine's recycling rate has hovered at 39% for the past two years - but we've got a goal of 50%. Here are some ways you can help us all get there. Photo caption: Kids at Kennebunkport elementary school created this life-sized whale out of aluminum foil salvaged from the dish line in the cafeteria.
