 September 2011

It may be September, but we Mainers know that summer isn't over yet. Even though school has started, evenings and weekends will remain light-filled and warm enough for our favorite outdoor activities for some time! September is also a great month to enjoy all of our delicious Maine-grown produce, and to visit some of our great local fairs. Enjoy this issue - and the last bit of summer!

Midcoast Green Homes Series:  Oct. 5- Nov 2

We are happy to partner once again with the Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council to present the first annual Midcoast Green Homes Lecture Series. This series of five free workshops takes place on Wednesdays beginning October 5th in Rockland. Attend one or all of the workshops! Snacks will be provided. Although there is no cost to attend, registration is recommended as space is limited.

 Maine Pesticide Collection

The Maine Board of Pesticides Control is offering a free pesticide collection drive in October at four locations around the state. If you "inherited" old pesticides in a house or barn, here's your opportunity to safely dispose of them. It is illegal to dispose of obsolete pesticides in trash, sewers or by burial and doing so also threatens ground water, a primary source of drinking water. These products also pose risks to sanitation workers, passersby and wildlife. To participate, you must pre-register. Do so at or by clicking here.
