 September 2011
Greetings!
Sunflowers

It may be September, but we Mainers know that summer isn't over yet. Even though school has started, evenings and weekends will remain light-filled and warm enough for our favorite outdoor activities for some time! September is also a great month to enjoy all of our delicious Maine-grown produce, and to visit some of our great local fairs. Enjoy this issue - and the last bit of summer!

 Maine Pesticide Collection
 Pesticides

The Maine Board of Pesticides Control is offering a free pesticide collection drive in October at four locations around the state. If you "inherited" old pesticides in a house or barn, here's your opportunity to safely dispose of them. It is illegal to dispose of obsolete pesticides in trash, sewers or by burial and doing so also threatens ground water, a primary source of drinking water. These products also pose risks to sanitation workers, passersby and wildlife. To participate, you must pre-register. Do so at www.thinkfirstspraylast.org or by clicking here.
