PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED NEW ACUPUNCTURE REGULATIONS FRIDAY, APRIL 25

The public hearing on the new acupuncture regulations is scheduled on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 1-4 p.m. at the Board of Registration in Medicine, 560 Harrison Avenue, Suite G-4, Boston, MA 02118. To visit their website, where you can download the proposed regulations, click here; then go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Draft Regulations" link. The acupuncture section is on pages 41 - 90. In addition, copies of the proposed regulations are available by request at the Board of Registration in Medicine, telephone 617-654-9800.

Public comment may be submitted either electronically to Eileen.Prebensen@state.ma.us; or by U.S. postal service to Eileen Prebensen, Esq., Senior Policy Counsel, Board of Registration in Medicine, 560 Harrison Avenue, Suite G-4, Boston, MA 02118.  The deadline for submission of public comment is 5:00 p.m., May 5, 2008.

AOMSM urges all acupuncturists to examine the regulations - they will provide the framework for the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Massachusetts for the next 20 years.  Now is the time to have input into the future of our profession and anyone who wants to is encouraged to either speak at the public hearing or submit comments by the May 5 deadline.

Representatives of AOMSM will be at the public hearing and will ask for clarification of the addition of biomedicine to the acupuncture scope of practice in the proposed regulations.

AOMSM ANNUAL MEETING
SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2008

Everyone is invited to the AOMSM Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New England School of Acupuncture in Newton.

The meeting will begin with "Bridging East and West: A Panel Discussion with Acupuncturists Working in Integrative Settings" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The panel will include James Moran, Lic.Ac. and Elaine Walsh, Lic.Ac.  Jim is on the staff at Mary Lane Hospital and Baystate Medical Center, where he is in the pain management program.  Elaine is on the staff at Salem Hospital and also works at the Pain and Wellness Center in Peabody.  The discussion will include information about the credentialing process, the ins and outs of working in a hospital setting as well as thoughts on working collaboratively with other medical providers.

The panel will be followed by lunch and a business meeting.  The business meeting will include discussion of AOMSM accomplishments in 2007-08, plans for next year, and election of the board of directors.

The annual meeting is a great opportunity to connect with other acupuncturists, to talk together about a topic of current interest and be part of your state professional organization.  Do consider coming to the meeting - it'll be fun, informative and lunch is free!

Please RSVP by April 22 to Susan Patten at macpat4@yahoo.com or telephone 987-388-8943.
