Greetings!

Welcome to the new version of our bimonthly newsletter, AOMSM Update.  We are very excited to be launching this new format to make it easier to keep the AOM community informed about news, events and other information relevant to the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Massachusetts.

The Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Society of Massachusetts (AOMSM) is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1993 and committed to encouraging the integration of acupuncture and Oriental medicine into American health care, and to expanding the public understanding of, and promoting access to, acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

Our purpose is to promote and cultivate discussion, broad representation, and empowerment of individual and organizational members at state, regional and national levels.  We want to hear from you, so please contact us.

AOMSM Joins AAAOM

AOMSM has joined the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM), the new national acupuncture organization created last spring by the reunification of the AOM Alliance and the AAOM.  Individuals who are members of state associations that are organizational members of AAAOM receive pass through benefits from AAAOM including access to health and business insurance, discount travel, etc.-check out the additional benefits.  In addition, anyone can sign up for a free OM Advocate Membership and receive OM E-Blasts, Advocacy E-Blasts and Qi Unity, the AAAOM's emailed newsletter.

Nancy Gilfoy, AOMSM president, will be representing the organization at the AAAOM conference in Portland, Oregon in October.  She will report on the conference and about developments in the profession in future issues of AOMSM Update.

As of the publication of this newsletter, the proposed revisions to the Massachusetts acupuncture regulations are still in draft form and no date has been set for public hearings.  To view the draft regulations go to http://www.massmedboard.org/public/pdf/draft_regs_03_21_07.pdf

NESA 6th Annual Fair
Oct 30th from 10am to 7pm

AOMSM will have a table set up at the NESA 6th Annual Fair on Tuesday, October 30th from 10am to 7pm.  As always Lane Seiger, NESA's Bookstore Manager has put a tremendous effort into creating a great event.  There will be representatives from a number of acupuncture vendors, demos, a raffle, free samples, etc.  Please stop by the our table to say hello, enter our raffle, find out about up-coming AOMSM events, and join or renew your membership.  We look forward to seeing you there.

AOM Day October 24

Don't forget Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day is October 24.  It is part of an effort designed to increase public awareness of the progress, promise and benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.  For ideas on things that you can do to take advantage of this national event and to learn more, go to http://www.aomday.org/

Membership Renewal Drive

This fall, AOMSM board members have been calling people who haven't renewed recently.  We made the calls
personally not only to encourage people who have been members to continue their involvement but also to get reactions to what AOMSM has been doing and find out what people are interested in.  We may do this in the future from time to time; so, if one day you hear a message on your answering machine from an AOMSM board member, please take the time to call back and let us know what is on your mind.  And if you are someone who renewed after a reminder call last month, thanks for your continuing support!
