Friday Night Wine Tasting
5:00 - 8:00 PM
That's right 5-8 PM! We are extending our Friday night tasting until 8:00 PM for the summer months. This week's tasting will be a Mick's Picks tasting. I've chosen a few of my fav's to taste. Trust me, you'll love em too!
This Week's Wines:
Valdelainos Rueda Verdejo
This crisp white from Rueda, Spain scored 90 points from Wine Enthusiast. Not many wines of this price are pulling legit 90-point scores. But this one deserves it. Up front it's full of citrus and green-fruit aroma, backed by honeyed melon and lime flavors. The texture is just soft enough to not bite, while the finish is wavy and smooth. Crisp, clean and easy to drink.
Normally $14.99 Friday $13.49
Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina
As a young man I took a job selling wine to restaurants in Providence. It was my first job ever outside of a restaurant, it was just a touch green under the collar! Lucky for me, my predecessor had just opened a small Italian restaurant on Federal Hill (Little Italy) He became one of my first and best customers. But I didn't sell him or teach him anything about wine, it was the other way around. That first summer he introduced me to a wine, Falanghina. I've been hooked since. From the vineyard on the hills of Campania in Southern Italy, it has aromas of banana, cream and mango follow through to the palate in this full-bodied white, with lots of fruit and a long finish. Normally $18.99
Friday $17.09
Carpineto Dogajolo
I'm getting a bit sentimental now. So I've decided to open another wine I discovered while selling wine to the Paisans on Federal Hill. A great example of a young super Tuscan. The first impression impression of the nose has an earthy barnyard quality that evolves into wild berries and cherries. Even in its youth, this wine exhibits complex flavors of cocoa, vanilla, cherry and coffee wrapped in a soft velvet blanket of tannin that envelops the palate with a soft oak and mild peppery quality; lingering and persistent finish. Normally $11.99
Friday $10.79
Tilda Petulance
Named for the petulant storybook child Matilda. I'll let the winemaker explain this one. All I have to say is the wine is Awesome!
From winemaker David O'Reilly, "Tilda - a bright and charming blend from young vines born and bred in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. She boasts a playful button nose of violets and gingerbread, a screaming palate of candied black fruits with a wild finish, thankfully balanced by structure and freshness. Our intense and precocious "l'enfant terrible" is a tribute to tortured parents everywhere. Take a "time out" and raise a glass to 'Tilda - the over indulged little cherub with an alter ego, only a mother and father could love!" Normally $18.99
Friday $17.09 |
Bell Wine Dinner
Thursday June 11
Anthony Bell of Bell Wine Cellars will join us for an intimate five course dinner. Anthony Bell is one of my favorite winemakers in California. He was winemaker with BV for many years and has been working with the Department of Agriculture doing clonal research of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and it's many clones. Suffice it to say, he is a wealth of knowledge. But he's also a fun guy to be around with a witty sense of humor.
