2011 Official Commemorative Poster Art Revealed!

"Pour Toujours Lavande" (2011) - Photography, John Scanlan, Glenwood, IA

Things you wouldn't believe...
In an effort to capture the peak seasonal colors of the lavender fields in Provence, France, the artist headed to the Valensole Plateau in the foothills of the French Alps. "Bees were buzzing around me like crazy but they did not bother me in the least as I had my mission and they had theirs. The sun rose over the Alps and beamed down on this perfect scene. I was buzzing... or could it have been the bees."
Artist Statement: "For me, it is an emotional journey with a delicate balance of the past against the starkness of time. In a world that seems to change overnight, there is something quieting about an image that makes the world stand still... ...Each image is a quiet tribute, a recognition of the tension between inevitable change and the desire for permanence and meaning." --John Scanlan
