Campbell River, Abyssal Lodge

Greetings!
If you are not in this picture, you likely might have missed a great diving weekend at the Abyssal Dive Lodge, on Quadra Island, which is a small ferry ride from Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Our first and second dives of the weekend where done on the HMCS Columbia. The wreck sits on a 30 degree angle to the starboard side. It was great to dive a similar ship but just on an angle made quite the difference. The other dives we did where similar in the amount of life that was covered everywhere you looked. I kept wondering when it was going to end. Carpets and carpets of strawberry anemones, purple tube worms, acorn barnacles and many different varieties of sponges. All of these dives except for the wreck where only at most a 7 minute boat ride away. The diving is very current sensitive and Abyssal was very good at getting us in the water at the right time. The diversity and amount of life was amazing. We are looking to go back up there in the fall, make sure you don't miss it. Campbell River gets a big thumbs up from these divers!

Upcoming Classes
Peak Performance Speciality; Saturday, June 28th When was the last time you took some weight off? It really is as simple as taking a couple of pounds out of your BCD. (What do you think that I was talking about?) Learn how to take the time to properly weight yourself for a more trimmer underwater profile. If you are diving over 35+ pounds of lead you are
probably diving to heavy. Learn the difference between weight integrated BCD's and harness systems. It consist of 2 open water dives. We will be doing this dive at Salt Creek at our Tour de Forts dive date.
Advance Class; Saturday/Sunday, July 5-6th: This
is your next step out of your Open Water class if you are ready to
become a scuba diver with skills. Learn your introductory to Deep,
Underwater Navigation, Search and Recovery, Drift and Night diving.
Enriched Air; Tuesday, July 8th:
Learn how to use Enriched Air up to 40% for recreation diving. Using
Nitrox reduces the nitrogen you take in at depth letting you extend
your no decompression bottom times and dive more conservatively helping you avoid DCS.
You will learn how to analyze and plan your dives using nitrox. This
class is one night of classroom. No dives required.
Dry Suit Speciality; Thursday, July 17th: Diving in the Pacific Northwest, makes diving dry a real comfort to stay warm during your surface intervals and extending your bottom time. Learn to dive in a dry suit so you will be ready for the winter when it comes (or is it going to stay like fall the rest of summer?). Join us for one night in the pool and than
one open water dive. If you have been diving in a dry suit and would
like your Dry Suit specialty you may challenge the class at a reduced rate.
Deep Speciality; Saturday/Sunday, July 26-27th: Interested in diving deeper? Sign up for the deep speciality class. This class will teach you about narcosis at depth and how to maintain and monitor air supplies for your planned deep adventures.
