Dance, Dance, Dance!

Fred Astaire Dance Studios Success Stories This
past June I visited the Jazz Festival in the Third Ward and people were
dancing in the streets. They were having so much fun and I wanted that
too. Dancing had always been something that I wanted to learn, but
never seemed to make time for. Now, as an "empty-nester," I have some
time. I scheduled my first lesson at Fred Astaire Dance
Studios, and arrived a few minutes early to observe others, that's what
I do best - WATCH! I was thinking that I would never be able to move
with the skill and grace that I was witnessing. My
instructor introduced me to all the basic steps that only involved my
feet. Hey, feet are needed for more than just walking or running! My
demands of my instructor were to "make me dance," which required him to
repeat instruction multiple times, but he had the patience of a saint.
When I finally got it; I wanted more. What I have learned cannot be
fairly put into words, however I will try. Dancing is so much
more than just moving your feet. When all is synchronized, the most
amazing euphoria happens and then you're dancing!! It's the most
awesome feeling. Did I mention how sexy dancing is? My newly
discovered happiness is dancing. My job is full of
spreadsheets, numbers, and meetings. Daily activities are mundane and
boring. You know what I mean; those meetings where you need to pinch
yourself to stay awake. Well, now during those meetings, I count the
hours until my next dance lesson. All of the instructors and staff at
Fred Astaire care a great deal for each student's success. They are
the most beautiful people you will ever meet this side of heaven. It's
almost as if you have joined a new family - with a large extended
family. Our family gets together every Friday evening for the Friday
Night Parties, which are always a blast. I highly recommend
dancing to everyone; especially if it is taught by one of Fred Astaire
Dance Studios' talented instructors. Just think, if everyone danced
their way to happiness, there would be no need for therapy or mood
enhancing medication. Did I mention how sexy dancing is? Things my
mother never taught me. Anne-MarieFred Astaire Dance Studios Student.

Motherly Journey and Physical Therapy - Article provided by Tri-Motion Rehab

Pregnancy
should be a joyous, beautiful experience for women. Sometimes discomfort, pain in the back,
pelvis, legs, or other problems can detract from this wonderful time. In fact, about 50% of all pregnant women
experience spinal pain with almost 20% of these women experiencing pain so
severe that it limits their daily activities.
All too often women are told discomfort and pain is a normal part of
being pregnant and you just have to wait for the baby to be born to feel
better. This simply is not accurate;
physical therapists can perform techniques and teach exercises you can use to
help your body adjust to the little person growing inside you. The more prepared your body is for adapting
to the physical changes, the better you feel, the easier your pregnancy and the
birth will be. Post-partum recovery can
also be greatly enhanced through physical therapy and specific exercises.
Sometimes
couples may have difficulty getting pregnant because of structural irregularities
in the mother's pelvic region due to endometriosis, scarring or an un-level
pelvis. Some of these infertility issues
can be helped by physical therapy.
I use
a specialized, hands-on form of treatment called myofascial release. Combined with patient education, appropriate
exercises, and modalities this will help a mother prepare her body for
pregnancy, giving birth and post-partum recovery. My advanced training includes specific
external and internal techniques and exercises to treat a variety of situations
and conditions that many women experience.
Myofascial release is very gentle in nature and safe to perform on mom
at all stages of pregnancy and to the baby soon after birth. Below are some of the situations where physical therapy
has been helpful: - Treating pain from sciatica, the round ligaments,
pelvis, back and neck
-
Developing appropriate and individualized exercise
program for strength, flexibility and endurance
-
Preparing breasts to promote breastfeeding success
- Treating various latching and lactation issues
-
Decreasing risk of diastasis recti occurring
(separation of abdominal muscles)
-
Techniques to decrease the risk of an episiotomy being
performed
-
Treating previous c-section or episiotomy scars
-
Reducing recovery time from a c-section or episiotomy
-
Improve feelings of fatigue
-
Treating balance issues
-
Decreasing headaches
-
Treat incontinence issues
-
Treating trauma from hard labor, forceps and vacuum
use during delivery
-
Adaptation exercises for mom and baby

May's Player Spotlight - Meet Melissa Oberst
|
 |
 Living Life to the Fullest!
By Ginny McCullough
I met Melissa Oberst first through e-mails as she was
joining the club and then through other correspondences that we have had
throughout the year as questions arose. I had her photo from creating her ID. Then
we met her in person at the Xavi clinic on Fridays. She was trying her best and
very hardworking on the field- getting a great workout! I love meeting club members
that I have been e-mailing with for a while. I really enjoy putting a "real"
face to a name - no longer just corresponding with text. One of the wonderful
things that I found out is that Melissa Oberst is just as nice on e-mail as she
is in person. I also found out that she was a business owner which also
intrigued me. I wanted to know more about her.
Who is Melissa? Melissa was born to Terry and Janet Johnson
in Joliet, Illinois and moved to Beloit, WI when she was three. She considers
herself a "Wisconsinite". She has one brother Mike who is 42 years old and a great
sister-in-law. Remaining in Beloit with her family, she graduated from Our Lady
of the Assumption Elementary School, then Beloit Catholic High School and
graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a degree in Industrial/Organizational
Psychology and Business.
Melissa met her husband Steve on a blind date that a mutual
friend set up in 1989. "I am sounding very old now." Melissa laughed. They have
been married for 17 years and are proud to have four wonderful children. "Emily
is 10, Thomas and Evan are twins and they are 7, and John our youngest is 6. Boy time certainly does go sooo fast - they are
all in school now and I do miss that baby time!"
Steve currently works at Old Republic Risk Management.
Melissa smiled and said, "Our friends would say he plays a lot of golf... but he
truly works hard. He manages certain
underwriting and sales functions of the company." Asked if they have had any
funny scenarios they have had together, Melissa said that they have tons of fun
together. "I could share many fun moments but one of the most interesting began
with our wedding day. 47 of our guests
who attended the rehearsal dinner were infected with a Norwalk Virus which made
us all horribly sick. Fortunately or
unfortunately, we were all hit about the same time - just about the time the
dancing was to beginJ. I will leave the specific details out and
finish with the comment that every anniversary card received from friends and
family have some comment about our wedding day such as....."I'll never forget
your wedding" to..."I survived your wedding".....to "With a wedding start like
yours, I can't believe you've made it 17 years!" It is funny now but oh....not so funny at the
time!" laughs Melissa.
She purchased Jalensky's
Outdoors & Marine in early 2007 which is located in Kenosha, WI. It is a
full service marine dealership and hunting/fishing retail store. It is similar
to a Gander Mountain concept (on a smaller scale). She used her college degree in the corporate world for
15+ years and now certainly is thankful to use it as a business owner.
Melissa started playing soccer in the WSC on the O30 Eagles
team at the prompting of Linda Jurasovich but now plays on the O30B Blast team.
Prior to playing soccer in the WSC, she played as a child in 6-9 grades but
then started playing again in the fall of 2008.
Her dear friend had been playing for a couple of years and talked her
into playing. "I was a bit skeptical
because it has been soooo many years but I love sports in general and soccer
was a sport I did enjoy as a child and thought - why not! " Melissa smiled. "It
is a great sport for all ages! It is
good exercise, a great team sport, and honestly it is challenging for me. I can tell you that I look forward to Sunday
evenings every week. I look forward to
that cheery hello from my teammates to the exhausted but exhilarating feeling
after the game is over! Getting better at soccer was my 2009 fun personal
resolution." said Melissa. When asked if besides playing soccer does she get
anything else from playing in the WSC? Melissa replied," Absolutely, I have met
amazing women that have inspired me on many different levels. I now consider my teammates to be friends.
There are really great people in this organization. I am inspired by the dedicated women who
volunteer so much time and energy to run this club. If we all took a bit of that dedication and
enthusiasm/energy and channeled it into one thing (small or large)- great
things would happen - just look at this club!"
Besides soccer, Melissa recently took up golf again in the
last few years. Her dear friend also began so "we are like two kids back in
junior high, giddy when we talk about golf. I am a bit of a fanatic and enjoy
it immensely. I also play volleyball and
some tennis."Besides being a wife, a busy mom of four, and being a business
owner, Melissa finds time in her busy schedule to promote children's theater.
She is passionate about promoting theater at the elementary aged level. Melissa explained, "Three years ago, several
moms started a drama club at Brookfield Elementary (Brookfield Players). The kids work towards a high quality musical
showcased at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. It is unbelievable to see children grow and
gain confidence on stage which leads to other great life benefits. I am
also interested in spreading the awareness of Arnold Chiari Malformation and
have met some other great mom's that have dealt with the challenges of this
malformation either as a person or with a child."
To relax, Melissa finds peace on the boat with her family. "We
could be fishing, tubing, or just anchoring and everyone is all smiles! It's one place the children seem to always
get along- there is so much peace to that!"
Her favorite food is Chinese -hands down! "I am not a huge movie
person but whenever I watch Forest Gump, I laugh, cry, and just love the story
line! Anything is possible!!!! I happen
to really like Tom Hanks too." She loves to play family games, socializing
with her friends at one of their homes playing cards, board games or just
sitting around talking and laughing. Her two favorite quotes are: 1. "Tell me and
I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand' - I love that as
a mother when thinking about how to guide my children." 2. "Live well, love much, laugh often' - This says it all! Not too deep but exactly how I feel!" From
what I know of Melissa, she certainly lives her life as an example of these two
quotes. It was wonderful to meet Melissa in person. When you see her,
please say hello to another AMAZING woman playing in the WSC. If you want to buy
a boat or go hunting/ fishing, check out her business first before you go
anywhere else. You'll be glad that you did. Jalensky's Outdoors &
Marine www.jalenskys.com

WSC O30 United Premier Team to go to National Cup
We are forming an All-Star O30 team to play in the National Cup in Chicago June 26, 27 and 28. Roster is due by May 13th. We will have tryouts/practice on May 5 and May 12 at Oakwood Park from 6-7:30pm. All interested NEED to attend. All players MUST be registered with the WSC.
Player fee is $26/player. Other fees you will have to pay are your own transportation and lodging in Chicago. You can find lodging in the link provided www.soccermidwest.us/id15.html or John can point you in the right direction. The team registration fee is sponsored already by Coach Becker. THANK YOU JOHN!!! Any questions, please contact:
Currently, as far as we know, the WSC O30 United Premier team is the only O30 team that is planning to register from WI so by default if we get a team in, we may already be State Champions. At the Regional level in Chicago, rumor has it that the Missouri team is strong.
As the deadline is coming up quickly, please jump on this ASAP if you are interested. Contact those mentioned above if interested by clicking on their names or calling Coach Becker.
