A Reflection by DeWayne Davis
| | I Do Not Know How to Say Goodbye... So I Won't
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. --Numbers 6:24-26 When I accepted the call to embark on the journey to ordained ministry, I knew that I would have to leave home, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. While I prepared myself to leave home, I was not prepared for the kind of transformative experiences of welcome and service I would receive among new people and new communities into which I would go. That failure to see was my own-years of rejection and condemnation from the religious tradition of my youth created resistance to the idea discovering new communities of love and acceptance. Even the love and embrace of my home church could not break down that resistance. It may come as a surprise to many that, before I came to Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia, it seemed a world away from me. I knew wonderful people who attended here and had heard stories of its history and its people, but it was an unknown place to which I would go away from my place of safety and community. I was plagued with doubt and no small amount of resistance, leaving the place of worship that had loved me back to wholeness and leaving behind my husband and friends who would remain there. BIBLE STUDY
Wednesdays through May 16, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Church Library Leader: Virginia Miles MCC NOVA has begun a new study series of the Bible.Following a brief overview, we will begin a deeper study of the Hebrew Testament starting with the Book of Genesis--the study of beginnings. This first segment of a longer study will progress as far as feasible in the Hebrew Testament, and we will then take a break of several weeks. We will then do a 6-weeks segment on the New Testament. The goal is to balance offerings between these two Biblical categories.
Participants will be expected to read identified chapters of each book to be discussed. Timing will depend on the discussions and progress that we make, and the schedule will be adjusted as needed.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please sign-up on the sheet provided on the literature table. Signing up does require that you necessarily attend all sessions, but it does provide information about how many may attend, and allow for communication about any alterations to the schedule. If you wish, you may also notify Emma in the church office of your interest.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

Everyone is welcome!
MUSIC NOTES
Ever considered singing in the choir? Well, this is the perfect time! We need people willing to give your time and talent to rehearsal and performance. We practice Sundays after church at 12:30, so you don't even have to come out another day in the week. So, if you have ever thought about singing with us, or have sung with us in the past, please join us as we make a JOYFUL noise!
On another note. A heartfelt "thank you" to all of you who faithfully listen to us. If you have a particular song you would like the choir to sing or a favorite hymn, please let me know and I will do my best to incorporate it. You can communicate it via email to [email protected] or just find me after church.
