kharma2009A 30th Anniversary! Check-Up

This month's celebration of the first 30 glorious years of ministry in and through the Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia happens to coincide with our receiving the results of the Assessment just completed by our consultant Tom Melzoni of Generis.   In many ways, this assessment is like a health check-up (something I normally dread!).  Tom (who actually does happen to be a doctor in this field of specialty) was chosen by the Capital Development Team after a lengthy search and interview process.  He brings decades of experience working with churches of many denominations and of every size in helping them raise the capital resources to fund their ministry and growth.  As we have been exploring the need for a building/mission expansion project, we have been planning for this assessment for quite some time.

In a nutshell, Tom's job was to ask "How healthy is this congregation?  Are they ready and equipped to be engaging in an expansion project?  Do they have the resources necessary to grow in a healthy fashion?"  He conducted a number of tests (personal interviews, anonymous surveys, a focus group conversation) and he also made his own observations based on a review of our history, current assets, and conversations with the Board and Capital Development and Building Teams.

The results are in, and (praise God!) the diagnosis is really good.  Rather than summarize it, I want to invite you to review the full report.  It's very important to all of the leaders of MCC NOVA that everyone has access to information as we prepare to make important decisions.  Our commitment to you is to be transparent with information and our processes.  Please take the time to read the assessment findings and feel free to ask us any questions.  This really is something to celebrate. The Board and Capital Development and Building Teams are planning our next steps in alignment with Tom's advice and guidance.  Stay tuned for more exciting developments.

I am so grateful for the many people who have given their hearts, hands, energy, and gifts to this congregation over the last 30 years.  Their presence, hard work, and contributions (yours!) have been instrumental in the building of a strong, healthy, spiritual community.  And, I'm convinced that we've only just begun!  As we celebrate the past and prepare to March Forward in Faith, let's take the time to give thanks, count our blessings, pray and seek wisdom for our future, and have a heck of a good time laughing, enjoying, loving, and celebrating with one another.  God is good.  God has been good to MCC NOVA.  And God isn't finished with us yet.  Happy Anniversary!

Blessings and Gratitude,
