EVENT POSTPONED
Rev. Delores Berry has been hospitalized with serious complications from a fall she took while on her recent trip to England. As a result, she will not be able to be with us this weekend for the Anti-Racism Workshop or for Sunday Worship. We will work to reschedule these events when she recovers. In the meantime, please join us for our regular Sunday worship service at 11 am and keep Rev. Berry and her partner Judy in your prayers during this difficult time.

If you have pictures from MCC NOVA events (picnic, basket auction, Bingo, potluck, lobby day, etc) that you would like to see in the calendar please send them to Kathy Felts (kpfelts@yahoo.com) or drop them by the church office.
We are also selling space on the calendar to advertise birthdays, anniversaries, and business. If you would like to have your advertisement on the calendar please sign up now! Birthday/anniversary announcements cost $5 and business advertisement cost $20.

DiMENSions - MEN'S BIBLE STUDY

Ed Kenney will host the next gathering of DiMENSions at 7823 Holmes Run Dr., Falls Church 22042, on Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30 pm. Over a shared meal, our men's Bible study group provides a nurturing and bonding experience with other men as well as with the Lord. Please join us as we continue with Chapters 9 and 10 of our DVD study entitled "Saving Jesus," 20-minute segments with a discussion about the relevance of our Savior in today's world. BASKET AUCTION NEWS
Okay folks, November 17th will be here before we know it. So start thinking about your baskets and putting those baskets together. We ask that all the baskets be at the church no later than
November 11th. Please include with your basket a list of what's in the basket so we can accurately list it in the program. Again, if you put together a basket and aren't comfortable arranging it or shrink wrapping it, the basket auction committee can do that for you. Thanks for your continual support!
MCC NOVA FOOD and CLOTHING DRIVE
This fall and winter, MCC NOVA will combat poverty and address worker justice issues. From October until Mid-November, we'll collect food for Fairfax's Our Daily Bread and take clothes, shoes, coats blankets, and other items to DC's Community for Creative Non-Violence (a shelter for the homeless). Stay tuned. In upcoming months MCC NOVA will address issues dealing with immigrants and sweatshops. If you have any suggestions or want to become involved, please contact Pat or Judith.

NOVAM 'CONCERT FOR HOPE'

Save the date for NOVAM's inaugural "Concert for Hope" which will be held on Friday, November 30, 2007. This concert will be an uplifting recognition of World AIDS Day and will feature singing duet of Jason and DeMarco, the Howard University Gospel Choir, and the Unity Fellowship and Shaman Tigre Drum Ministries.
This year's event will be held at the brand-new Kenmore Middle School Auditorium on Carlin Springs Road in Arlington, VA.

MCC NOVA is working with Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (NOVAM), several other area MCC congregations, Little River UCC, and many others to host a community health fair on the theme of Body, Mind, and Spirit. The event will include a keynote address from Joshua Love, MCC's international HIV/AIDS and Drug Literacy Program Specialist, a variety of panel presentations, booths sponsored by area agencies promoting a variety of health and wellness resources in our community, health testing/screening, and much more. Joshua will also preach at MCC NOVA on Sunday, December 2.

MCC NOVA's 2009 service project team will travel to Costa Rica February 14 - 22, 2009! This is an exciting decision for our congregation and we look forward to enriching the lives of others while enriching our own lives by giving of our time and talent. We currently have a team of 17 people who have committed to making the trip.

ELECTION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The weeks preceding the elections are crucial to voter turnout. Between October 27th and November 6th (Election Day) volunteers will speak one-on-one with voters and motivate them to exercise their right to vote. This will be a fun and exciting opportunity to get involved in Virginia's 2007 elections. Join HRC and our allies as we mobilize Virginia's pro-equality voters. MEALS ON WHEELS
Drivers critically needed. Meals are delivered Monday-Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Volunteers can deliver on a weekly, biweekly, monthly, or substitute basis. SHARED SPACE/FACILITY USE NOTES A Civics Class for immigrants organized through Liberty's Promise will begin using the MCC NoVA facility in the afternoons on the following days:

Liberty's Promise supports young immigrants in need while encouraging them to be active and conscientious American citizens. Their programs aim to make the immigrant experience an affirmative one for young newcomers while instilling in them a sense of pride and support for American ideals of democracy and freedom. By doing so, Liberty's Promise seeks to reaffirm our fundamental egalitarian and democratic traditions for future generations
MCC TRIP to GERMANY

Have you ever traveled together and had to pretend you were "just friends"? Have you ever wanted to travel in a group where you could be with folk like you? Join us for a trip sponsored by the Open Door Center for Spirituality, leaving May 15th 2008. Our tour is "Historic Germany, from Berlin to Bavaria" and will include an optional excursion for three days in Vienna, Austria. All are welcome!! For those who would like to make this an educational experience through the Center for Spirituality, Rev. Dr. Rob Apgar-Taylor, Pastor of Open Door and German Professor at Hagerstown Community College will be leading an online study prior to departure on "When hate wears the face of Jesus" examining how people have abused religion and twisted Scriptures to validate the oppression of others. We will also experience an optional day excursion to Dachau Concentration Camp for those who are interested. CAPITAL HOSPICE IS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Are you interested in making a difference? Adult daytime, evening, and weekend volunteers are needed to visit hospice patients at home, work in our Van Ness office, join our Speakers Bureau. We also need volunteers with cars, language skills, a strong desire to work with people. Patient Care Volunteer Trainings are held three times a year. Volunteers will learn about Capital Hospice services and programs and techniques in caring for and communicating with hospice patients.
