GHS MODEL

GHS RESTORED BY ALUMNI

Memories die hard. Especially when they are as strong and emotional as those that the GHS alumni had for its alma mater, which proudly stood for 70 years before it was torn down to make way for the new Gray Middle School.

Dan Michele, GHS Class of 1966, said he knew exactly what he would do when he heard the news of the school's destruction. He decided to make a model to display in the museum so that no one would forget the historic building.

Dan will unveil the 7-foot long model of the school at the beginning of Saturday's roundtable discussion with Julian Rowe, Dolores Gano Walker and Wilson Shepherd, all Groveland natives and GHS graduates from the 1930s and 1940s.

Dan's unveiling will be at 10 AM, Aug. 13. Come out and show your thanks for the hundreds of hours he put into this wonderul addition to the museum. Bring a friend and a camera!

BACK TO SCHOOL

CELEBRATION

Our new GHS exhibit put us in the mood to celebrate Back to School.

Dan Michele

will talk about how he created the GHS model, and our roundtable discussion will move to the 1950s-1990s to finish off our GHS alumni discussions.

We are looking for at least one alumni from each decade. If you are willing to be part of the panel, e-mail dorisbloods@earthlink.net.

ALSO, we would like to include a fashion show of formals from the different eras. Do you have a prom dress or formal you wore to homecoming? We have 3 lovely ones at the museum but would like to highlight a few more if you would share them during September.

Contact dorisbloods@earthlink.net for more details.

Our Back to School celebration is set for

Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 AM - 1 PM.

++++++++++++++++

The Groveland Historical Society will meet on, Aug. 18, at the museum at 7 PM.
