Being chosen as an FFA Sweetheart was one of the biggest honors you could receive at Groveland High. Pictured at left is Mary Helen Robbins (Myers), Class of 1962, receiving her sweetheart necklace. The photo and the sweetheart charm are on display at our FFA exhibit. Below is a cheerleading uniform from the late 1950s donated by Lynda Gilliard McMurphy, Class of 1960.

Happy 100th Birthday, Boy Scouts
| |
Pictured above are members of Groveland's Boy Scout troop from the late 1950s. It is the oldest, continually running troop in Lake County and continues today. Boy Scouts of America is celebrating 100 years since its founding in the U.S.A. To help celebrate, we've put together a slideshow with lots of photos from Groveland's Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops from the 1950s. After you watch it all the way through, you can add comments in a pop-up review. >>CLICK HERE to view.

Miss Groveland

The Annual 4th of July Celebration used to signal one of the town's big events -- the crowning of Miss Groveland.
Betty Thornrose (Lord) was an early winner. In 1965, the tradition was restored and continued for several decades.
Pictured above is Walter Green with Carol Speer, the 1965 Miss Groveland. >>CLICK HERE to see a photo gallery or slideshow of winners and contestants through the years.

Green Swamp
Groveland is home to one of the state's most important resources: the Green Swamp. The 560,000 acre wetlands serves as an important filter in the state's aquifer and is home to more than 330 species. Historically, hunters from around the world came to fish and hunt there. Lorem Brown was a popular guide who lived in a log cabin in the Green Swamp. >>CLICK HERE for a virtual audio-video tour.
